and thats being conservative..ive read it was between 20,000 and 100,000..they were born to fight and alot of the persians were just slaves and regular people, so it makes sense that they could beat that many.

Oh yeah, just think about it, the boys go off at age 7 or 8 to begin training. If, that's IF, they make it they don't go to war until they are 18 years old. That's 10 to 11 years of nothing but training before they ever fight. Our military does a 12 week boot camp and then maybe some specialty training. Could you imagine if out military made men do what those kids did? We would have to most bas ass soldiers. They would be experts in everything with that much training. Their combat skills would be so perfect that it woudl be unbelieveable to see what they could do. Don't get me wrong, I know our soldiers are well trained, but nothing like the training that Spartans went through. Soldier for soldier the Spartans were probably the best trained of anyone except maybe the Samurai. I would have to say those two would be the most fierce of all of histories soldiers. Persia was nothing more than a numbers game. You show up with 300,000 troops and you are going to win a lot of battles, it's pretty simple. But the dicipline that the Spartans and the Samurais had was above all in my opinion. There may be another group I'm missing but I would say soldeir for soldier those were the two best.
