  • What's the point?

This is about message board etiquette and such.

Is it REALLY that hard to just be polite and respectful on a message board? I mean I that because of the anonymous nature of boards such as this that one might get keyboard courage. But really you are relating to someone real and just because you're not looking at him/her in the face doesn't mean "yay I can mouth off" To use a real world example, I doubt any of us would go out of our way to degrade/antagonize a perfect stranger. So why antagonize a stranger online? I know I wasn't raised to be like that. I treat a message board like I'm having a real conversation so I show nothing but respect. Hence why I don't like when people say "It's just the internet" because if it's just the internet, then there'd be no reason for rules of conduct on a message board.

I'll use myself as an example, I tried to talk things out with someone on another board via private messenger. As I didn't appreciate a comment he directed at me. His general response was "Put me on Ignore then" which is just another way of saying "I don't give a *bleep*, I'll say what I want to you". Which is unfortunate that he decided to take that tone. And personally I don't believe in Ignore lists anyway, mainly because the people I would put on Ignore end up getting banned quick enough anyway.

You'd think that board communities would have a strong sense of well community. But it seems like in some cases,*thanksfully the minority* that some people prefer to be asses rather then friendly

And that's the thing I don't get, maybe I'm an overly nice person. But I take pride knowing I'm respectful. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror knowing I disrespected someone on a board/in person. Because honestly it really doesn't prove anything to disrespect someone either online or in person. All it means is that you're a sad excuse for a human. Because anyone can be rude but it takes courage to show at least some respect. And I'll say that much even if I don't like what or how someone posts. While I will be direct and say so, I'm at least civil doing so meaning no curse words or anything.

The internet lacks the one big thing...emotion. What I mean by that is that on the internet you can type one thing and it sounds perfectly fine in your head but someone else reading it can put it in a completely different tone and find if offensive. There are the few that think that since they can hide behind the internet they can act like they would like to in real life, like badasses but for those few there are the many good guys willing to help.

(she has since decided not to follow around in my internet adventures, lol). she really believed i was having, or gona have, an affair on her!!.
but, it's true that there is alot of internet tuff guy's. that's the main reason i really enjoy this board and the people here. if someone gets goofy, they get called out from every direction. and, if it continues, they get launched pretty quick.

It's sad, but it's something you just have to get used to. There is this porn board I go to and the arguements and flaming that goes on is beyond ridiculous. I know 90% of those fools wouldn't say anything like that to anyone in real life but they are behind the internet so they can act all badass. Then again there are 10% of the people who are pure jackasses in real life and on the internet. You can tell usually because every post they make seems to cause problems. Basically, just find a decent board like FG and forget the rest. No need for drama, especially internet drama!

Thankfully he's in the minority of people there. I mean he doesn't flame, he's just not polite if you catch what I'm saying. But the majority have no problem with me as we take shots at each other. And those that don't just pay no attention to me

But I always have to remind myself either online or in person. Someone can and will dislike you for something as simple as a different opinion. It's very prejudiced to do so but whatever. I mean it's not like I say stuff like "America got what it deserved at 9-11 or that Tim Hardaway was right in his anti-gay remarks. It's simple stuff like a different opinion on women and such

But as a black person I know better then to be prejudiced so either online or in person. I show you the respect you deserve as a person. And if you REALLY choose to get rude, then I just politely ignore you as it's better then taking shots at you

Yeah that kinda **** goes on all over the place bro. I also belong to a couple of powerlifting boards and while most powerlifters use their real name on the boards there's also alot of cats on there that hide behind a screen name and talk smack. Funny thing is when you call them out, ask their real name and what not, they either disapear or avoid you all together. Real badasses huh?

That's one of the cool things about boards like these, you cannot make prejudgments based on race, color, whatever, because you can't see one another. It goes to show how prejudice people really are when you see them face to face. I dont care whether your black, white, purple, or rainbow. We as a society need to get that **** out of our minds. Yes its hard, and yes I am guilty of it too, but treat people as human beings, not as catagories like ford, chevy, and dodge.
