That's what I'm hung up on personally, because I try to imagine these parents or wives or kids that lost people and I would hate to think they lost them for nothing. But, if we were to get them established and running under a deomcracy and be self sufficient, then maybe they died for a good cause.

You tell me, I never was in the military but I think if we just pack up and leave, that might be what some people feel. Some kid thinking 'my dad died for nothing'. I don't know, I'm not trying to be rude bro, that's just the mess I think we are in. I think if we pull out, those 3,000 soldiers died in vain and that would just make me sick. But, if Iraq could get stable and self sufficient and have rights, then maybe they died for something.

According to the U.S. General Accounting Office, the Department of State and Department of Defense gave the U.N. $3.45 billion in direct contributions to conduct peacekeeping operations between 1996 and 2001.9 This figure is dwarfed by the estimated $24.2 billion in indirect contributions10 made by the U.S. government to help support 33 U.N. peacekeeping operations in 28 countries during that five-year period.
I knew that, I was too. lol

All countries contribute to the UN, well, all that are part of it. We just give more than most.

I actually agree with the issues that you are bringing forth, however i am a big advocate of if you are going to point out a problem, a solution must be provided for as well..

Providing for local security/police services (which is what is being done) and for us to dump even more money into their economy..

much like the we did and do after every war..

Re: Bush says he's going forward regardless!

^^ you know, that's a great point! Why aren't we having 'them' pay for our military to be there? Think about it, if every country we helped had to pay us for being there, they would put much more effort into getting us out. Ever since we took control, we should have said 'ok, the clock starts now and it's one million dollars every day we are here". That would be 365 million a year we are there. Or hell, make it 10 million a day, whatever it takes. That way, it's not our money, but theirs and if they want an economy left, they better get their act together so we can pull out. If you look back and ever study the history of Knights. Yeah, they did good deeds, but they always charged for them. That should be our new policy from now on. Damn it, I'm going to run for President. Make it a rule that any country that needs a body guard, big brother or whatever has to pay. Except for Britain and Austrailia, because they always have our back. But, some country in Africa wants us to come clean up some mess, no prob, you pay and we will come. What, you don't have any money? You got diamonds don't you, we'll take 10 million in diamonds and you have our help for one month.

I think I need to write a letter to congress. LOL

Re: Bush says he's going forward regardless!

that is a great idea, they have the oil and the fuel refineries that Rockefeller built for them, so it's cheap..

            here's some info..

fireman on contract to go there and work

$90,000 1 yr commitment, tax free, all expenses paid...

to earn that much money, you would have to earn $160,000 pretax... plus more because you would have to have living expenses during that year..

that's what the current contract is paying firemen..

Re: Bush says he's going forward regardless!

You think that's sick, that's nothing. One of my bros who's is in special ops said that there are hundreds of ex-special forces guys making $1,000 a day for security. He said they get to stay at the bases with them and when a company has to move someone or something, they go to work. They get paid just for being there, even if they do nothing for a whole week. Also, he said they are able to get their hands on some really kick ass weapons too. And, if they blow something up, they don't have to answer to anyone if they say the life of their ******* (whatever the military word for it is, I can't remember) is in danger. However, the negative side is, if they get ambushed, they can't just make a call and have the Marines back them up. It's pretty much 'you are all you got' thing. But, my bro said their is a ton of them over there and if they think it's a risky assignment, they will work as multiple fire teams so they can back one another up. He did say they tend to get into some pretty good fights too, though. Since they work in smaller teams, they tend to get targeted more than a large convoy sometimes.

But, $1,000 a day. That's just crazy. And our military is doing the same thing for what, $6,000 a month? Well, that's about where my bro is, but he's a Captain.

A Lance Corporal's basic pay is 1534.20 per month. Add in some combat pay and if the wardog is married he gets a separation allowance as well. Plus, the whole check for the month is tax free. It's not a lot of money considering what they are asked to do. But most are not in it for the money... that's another subject in itself...

and they get an automatic $250,000 death benefit..

if they already have a $250,000 in place with a (War clause not included)

that's $500,000 for the surviving spouse..

                    + $2500 from social security

+ the 4 years of college the military will pay for all of his children, and spouse..

oh and don't forget the free burial and flag..

don't mean to sound bitter, but my family has already been through this..

What about all of the innocents? I'm betting people in other countries are saying the same thing about us!

That response is exactly what I was speaking of before. Many americans are all gung ho and just want to launch bombs places, and think everything will be ok. They don't even think twice about the pain and suffering they would cause to the many innocents out there. There are many people in those countries that are good people. Why should they have to die because of the few that are bad seeds?

Just people from other countries think americans are all about war. That's not fair either because many of us don't want to drop bombs without thinking of the consequences. There is no pretty side to war, and there are so many people out there thinking it is cool we're killing people and destroying things! It makes me sick!

How would any of you feel if the same was happening here and your families were accidentally killed by a stray bomb or bullet? I bet you'd be the first ones up trying to kill these phuckers that just killed your family. That's america's problem! They never put themselves in other peoples shoes before they act!

History repeats itself, and all empires that were a world power got way to arrogant, and full of themselves and it resulted in their downfall!
