Forgive me gearheads (car lovers I mean) - I hate cars. I just want something that looks nice and works. I want to buy it and forget about it. If anyone has suggestions on a new car fitting this description let me know.

So my wife is driving home and suddnely the transmission . . . dies, I guess. SO she and the baby are stuck on the side of the road for two hours until a cop rolls up and tells her to try driving in 4-wheel high - which miraculously got the car moving some how. So that is nice, but our car is F#$^& now, and we can't afford to buy a new transmission. Its a Chevy Trailblazer with like 26k miles on it - we just got it from the dealer this summer for God's sake! I HOPE its covered by warranty or I'm going to take an arsenal to the nearest Chevy plant!

I depends if you got kids and need something big or a sedan... I personally wouldn't buy american,lol quality is crap!

Toyota Camry will last for a good 200,000 Miles. My friend had one that ran to 400,000 miles. Great resale on them as well.

That was my first American car - previously all were Hondas . . . a couple accords, a civic, and an Element. We got a great deal on it from a dealer who is a freind of my father-in-law, and I kept hearing that American cars were no longer pieces of sh!t.

^ They are still all pieces of shait, lol! Only one i like is the Cads. You were better off with the Hondas, Nissans, Toyota. All moderately priced and durable, build to last.

honda and toyota (including lexus and acura) are the best cars in the world.

i bought domestic since i started driving until i bought a chevy malibu for my wife

damn thing broke down so often i had the roadside assistance on speed dial

now my wife drives a nissan and i have an acura. neither have been to the shop

I would go with Honda or Toyota then!

I bought my first and LAST chevy, I love my truck, I really love him, but I dont get it how that truck can be so ingenious, well made on some thing, and ****ty on other things, with all the noises coming from everywhere. Hell, a ****ing 50k SUV that cracks like a russian 1950's car! Also everything in that engine is so badly ingineered that just changing a light or battery is a pain in the ass!!!!

Also the dealer did pissed me off royalllllllllllllly!!!!!!

Yeah I would switch to a Honda or a Toyota it should be on ur warranty

I can't say much negative about American cars so I will go against the norm here.
I also can't say muh bad about any of the imports.
I truly feel they all have good and bad and the brand makes no difference.

I have a 95 Jeep grand Cherokee that has over 200,000 on it and not a single problem except the wipers don't work on delay mode.
My wife even ran the thing on the freeway with no oil in it. I had to put 4 quarts in before the dipstick read anything!!!
It still runs me everyday with no probs.

I also have a 99 Chevy suburban with no problems that I picked up used and drove 6,000 miles on it the week after I got it.
No problem except for a brake rotor change that any car will have and a haedlight switch that is a bit flaky.

Now I really like some of the imports too so I'm not PRO anything.
Just not Anti-anything either.

Sorry to hear about the tranny. With the electronics in all the new cars it's hard to tell. It may something very simple or the tranny may be fragged.
I truly wish the best for you.

I'm a gearhead by nature but only on the older stuff.
Too much computer junk these days.

All I can really say is best of luck and I hope the dealer can do something for you.
With the imports all having very good warranties I think the American guys should start doing the same and really stand behind the vehicle.

I purchased a Kia Amanti for my wife after she blew up the Mercedes, absolutely no problems plus a 100k warrenty! She keeps getting the "That's not a Kia!" from people, pretty sweet ride for the money.

I would bet bout anything its under warranty just like the tow and rental car should be.

Its american cars and trucks for me all the way. I own a ZR-2 pickup bought it new. It now has 147k on it and all i have done is put a water pump on it and change the T-stat at around 100k. My wife drives an Expedition its a gas hog but no problems.
The one and only foriegn car i have bought is a new Jag S-type a few yrs back. It was without a doubt the biggest piee of **** i have ever owned. The only thing i miss about it is the supercharged V-8 It would move out on the top end.

Why do i picture u guys all drivin around in little rice rods with coffee can sized mufflers?

Funny story - because she could not reach me, my wife called her dad. He and the dealer are hunting buddies (not close friends, but friends enough), and it turns out they were together when she called. He turns to him and says "Tom, you sold my daughter a lemon!" LOL He said to take it in and if there were any problems he would take care of it. So that was good.

So she takes it in (to a different, closer dealership) for repairs. They said the transmission is OK. But some kind of switch that governs 2WD/4WD low/4WD high was faulty. They replaced the switch, but Jeez! One little switch goes, and it completely immobilizes the car?!?! WTF?

Anyway, we got it fixed and it was covered under the 30k miles warranty. Thank God - we dodged a bullet there.

yeah they repaired the switch for the 2hi, AWD, 4HI, 4LO
on my trailblazer this summer, after the dealer broke my tailgate window

thats another story!
