Re: Fatality confirmed on Mt.Hood
we were really hoping that they would pull through. With all the storms that we have been having i was hoping that someone was going to make it through. After they got signals from his cell phone I had a feeling he was going to be ok. I think the other two will probably share his fate

Re: Fatality confirmed on Mt.Hood
Yeah being a climber myself it just chokes me up everytime it comes on. especially the James Kim tragedy. I been through there myself a few times. after the big fire, me and my ex ran into a detour that took us off route. good thing we were prepared just incase. the thing that pisses me off is the fact everyone (the flatlanders) want to point a finger. blaming the BLM for not keeping the gate locked and all this other bulls#it. these things could happen to ANYONE !! and as far as climbing,..s#it ! it was an accident for crying out loud ! people get killed jus crossing the street.Leaders did what others weren't willing to do, now they enjoy the things that others do not.

Re: Fatality confirmed on Mt.Hood
Here's my question...who, in their right mind, goes into the mountain terrain with limited gear and doesn't bother to watch the wheather station? I'm not trying to be insensitve, I'm just asking a logical question. I live in Colorado, I know the dangers of hiking, so it's a question that I just would like to hear an answer to.
Me and a couple of my bros like to go on a hike every now and then and even if it's only a few hours, we pack for the 'just in case' situation. I fill my Camelback all the way up with water, I bring protein bars and beef jerky. Yeah, it's overkill, but it's smart. Just imagine if something did happen and one of us broke a leg or who knows what, atleast we would have sustanance to get us by. Anyways, I just wonder what makes a person hike a terrain like that without thinking about the 'what if' factor.

WTF ? as for the Kim family that was a f'ing joke ! the're yuppie flatlanders from San francisco,...in a Subaru with a Garmin. These other three guys (R.I.P.) what where they thinkin'? "f#@k it, lets just go" ? I get razzed too "what are ya packin all that for"? everest ? no ! smart ass, incase it rains, gets cold, dark, or im stuck with a broken leg,..I'll be warm, dry and fed so I'll be able to save my ass. Just cause you're degreed and making six figures dont mean you're Daniel f'ing Boone ! sip your Starbucks, update your portfolio, or what ever you folks do in your convienient push button world, and leave the "Daniel Boone stuff" to those who live it as a true lifstyle.
Either way, it is a very sad thing but one that I hope people take note from and in the future prepare better for.

Re: Fatality confirmed on Mt.Hood
Im not dissin' the guy cause it was an accident. his downtown intellect mind didn't realize he was about to drive through the Siskyou mountains in the winter ? Thing is im getting really pissed off at all the finger pointing. climbers are careless risk takers, the BLM should babysit the back roads, all this wasting taxpayers money. what a bunch of crass ! it's the flatlanders talkin all the s#it who get taken out in a body bag by,.....us "careless risk takers".Leaders did what others weren't willing to do, now they enjoy the things that others do not.
