Another story on how bad parents and aggressive journalists try to blame current violence on video games. I'm so tired of hearing about this crap! How about these parents do their job and monitor what they allow their kids to play! You don't see them saying that kids are having sex early because of the porn tapes they buy their kids! Why?? Because no parent would buy their kid a porno tape. So why would they buy them mature rated video games??

Re: Again they blame the video games!!!!
Well, I can see how it would cause them to be more aggressive. However, it's still the parents job to raise the child and any good parent, who actually spends time with their child, would recognize the aggressiveness and put a stop to it. My son gets very aggressive when he watches UFC with me. He's almost 4. However, the books I've read so far (Brining Up Boys - Dobson, Future Men - ?) on raising boys says it's important for them to play fight, play army and all that stuff. It teaches them confidence, it gets their frustrations out, it helps them with understanding protection, it goes a long way in the developement of boys into men. Dobson, which most of you know is a very conservative guy who is the head of Focus on the Family, says it very important that boys get to rough house and even get into some fights as boys. It's all part of learning to be a man. He even says, and this will shock most people, that it's ok for a boy to masturbate and that it's a normal function of a growing boy. That totally blew me away but when he explained his basis for it, I totaly agreed. Boys will be boys but they will get out of control if their parents are part of their lives. And I'm not talking about having dinner with them, I mean really making a conscience effort to spend good quality time one on one with each of your children. This is the only way to have a healthy relationship with your children. It's a proven fact that over 85% of prisioners in today's prisons say they had poor relationships with their parents, especially their fathers. We as dads, play a huge role in how our children grow and what kind of people they become. The mom may be the nuturer, but our involvement in their lives will mold them for what they are to become.

Re: Again they blame the video games!!!!
I agree with most of what you said. But I don't think it's good whatsoever for a kid to be playing games like Grand theft auto or Saints Row! These games are waaaaay to suggestive and is definitely something an impressionable child should play.
I agree playing cops and robbers, army, wrestling, getting into fights is all a normal part of becoming a man. But again Mature rated games are rated that way for a reason. I do agree that a lot of the violence can be directly linked to the games. I don't however think it's the games fault. It is the fault of the parents for not partaking in their kids lives, and monitoring what they play!
People will always argue that it's the games fault and they should be pulled off the shelves. Well then guns should be pulled off the shelves, Porn should be pulled of the shelves, and even household cleaning agents should be pulled off the shelves!
Why you may ask?
Because guns kill people, porn destroys lives, and people huff chemicals. But the point these people never get is it's not the products fault. It's the fault of the parent that should have prevented the kid from getting ahold of that stuff! No parent is going to hand a kid a bottle of ether and tell them to have fun! So why do they hand games that are clearly marked for MATURE AUDIENCES to impressionable kids?? Parents should get just as hefty of a fine for allowing their kids to play MA rated games as they would be for allowing them to drink underage. It's not in the best interest of the child and it's absolutely unexcusable!!
But of course these lowlife parents will point at the manufacturers! Do you think these people would actually take responsibility for their own actions! OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Again they blame the video games!!!!
Difficult one , as they are the games all the kids want to play, they will pester there parents to play them , so it is up to the parents to stay firm on it.
I think violent video games are a valid cause for concern its difficult as all the adverse publicity merely makes them even more popular. no publicity is bad publicity.
Whilst they are not to be blamed per se for violent behaviour they are part of a growing culture of violence glorification,, some might say it is better to play violence in the virtual world but as to whether it leads to real life violence , certain studies say it does but society is complex.
common sense says parents should stop their kids playing them.

Someone pissing you off after an annoying rush hour drive home?? Pop in Grand Theft Auto and start pulling people out of their cars and killing them. Then blow up their car. Nothing is more rewarding than doing that and picturing that SOB that purposely held you up just to be a jerk.

If I've had a stressful day I will go to my pc and pop in Chessmaster 10 and try not to get my ass beat. That game is tough. But, it takes my mind off everything else. It has to or I will lose very quickly.
I also have Axis & Allies which is another great strategy game that really clears my mind. After taking over a few countries and destorying German and Japanese military units I feel a lot better. LOL
