    Re: whats you time worth?

    Here's my two cents:

Quality family time is priceless! That's why I love my job. I work from home, I set my own schedule and I can see my family anytime I want. Even when I really busy, I still see my family. With your situation, it seems like you want more but don't want to sacrifice family for it. I respect that 100%. So, my suggestion is...see if your current boss will let you become a partial owner. Nothing big, for now, but it you continue to prove yourself year after year maybe he would consider an increase in partail ownership every year. For example, ask for 10%. Then, every year, add 5%. In a few years you will have 25% of the company on top of you current income. This will obviously encourage you to get the best sales people and train them to be the best. After all, you will be making part of the bottom line and it will always motivate you.

If....he doesn't go for it, then you may want to go. If you will be able to come ang go as you please then you will be able to do lunches and stuff with your family until things settle down some. If you can truely double your income then that would enable you to take more quality family vacations. However, the new job has to be cool with it. That was one thing that pissed me off about Health Club management. I would get 2 weeks paid vacation, but I still had to hit my goals. Now, how the hell am I supposed to him my sales goal when I'm taking 25% of the month off (if I took a full week off)? Hell, when I got married the sons of *****es only gave me 5 days for honeymoon and still told me I had to meet full quota. That's the biggest thing that pisses me off about sales.

Ok, back on 'your' situation (lol). If can't enjoy the extra money with your family, if just isn't worth it. IMO But, on the flip side, if your job will let you take time off and not be all over your case for taking it, then I say do it. Hell, put it in writing before you go that you want 'x' number of weeks off and you want your personal sales quota adjusted the months you use vacation. Tell them that otherwise, it's not worth taking vacation if I can't enjoy it. Any boss who really wants you will agree to something like that. Tell him it will be between you and him and that the dealership will still meet quota the months you take vacation. Tell him that you will put a staff together that will run like a well oiled machine and for that, you want some special perks.

IMO if I could make more money but it took more time from my family and I was able to take say 3-4 full week vacations with pay, I would probably do it. I would make sure that the weekends I was home that it was all about family. I mean I would give up football (and if you know me, you know that HUGE), laying around, everything and have the absolute best time with my family the days I was with them. The whole time I am doing this I would literally save 100% of every dollar over what I was making. I'm talking every damn dollar! Then, in 10 years, I would step down to something less demanding and have the piece of mind that I have a shit load of money invested and that I can enjoy life to the fullest. Think about it, if you invest $50k a year (which is about all of the $90k increase you will see), in 10 years you will have 1/2 a million already invested. Let that increase another 10 years and sit back and enjoy retirement.

PS - on a more selfish note.....will this allow us to do the car thing we talked about? If so, then do it! LOL

I'd stay put Daved. There's no guarantee's in the next job, and usually if something is too good to be true it is! Usually those things end up not working out right, and then by then your position at your current job would probably be filled.

Car dealerships go through GM's and sales managers like water. Everytime I go into a dealership it's always different staff. If you have a good relationship with the owner, and your doing good there with no stress, I'd definitely stay put.

          Re: whats you time worth?

man, y'all bring up some good points...
t-man. i get paid on the total bottom line now. i do have a strong pressence on the decision making that goes on here. i'm moving to fire the gsm next week and replace him with a guy i've been after for awhile.
the discussion of partnership has already been discussed and is in the future (but, you know carsalesman, lol) nothing's on paper and it almost never is becouse things can change so fast, but thet have not lied to me so far, so i must take their word for it. i guess bottom line, after disscussing this with the wife last night (all night), is do i want to take the money offered now, or roll the dice on the money to come later.
this other organization is not foriegn to me. it's the place i worked at before i went to this job, and they've always wanted me back. they are a family op. dad and 2 sons. both sons have young kids, and they are very strong about family....i really do believe if i get it rockin, time off really wont be an issue. the problem will be me. i know me. i throw myself at something like this, and i never think i'm doing enough. i'll be the one that turns it into longer hrs than necc. i'll be the one to live at the dealerships by choice and sence of obligation....i went through this in fla bro...
this is getting to long....i'll give ya a call t-man.
oh, and the only thing that'll help our thing is for biz. up here to get moving again! lol...

well, sounds like you know what too do, as always, lol

just an observation, when it comes too money, if one is not a nut-job about spending and has their priorities in line, quality of life and lifestyle are extremely similar when income is over 75k all the way up too, believe it or not 250K

when people go over 150 besides taxes there are lot's of expenses usually related to that type of income that folks don't think about, like let's say wardrobe, you can easily spend 5k a year on clothes and not realy think about it

so, it's like u say, unless ownership with big bucks are there imho the trade-off's are not worth it
