    I'll give you an example.
I was about a 16 or 17 year old christian, when I remember reading something Thomas Jefferson said; "Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear." That quote was quite thought provoking for me [because man requires reason to live but the omnipotent god that created us to survive via reason was wanting us to forgo it when it came to questions about him.] but I experienced anxiety from my thoughts, because I knew my omniscient god must have realized the disruption in the force. It is weird to look back on the situation from my perspective now and realize how indoctrinated I was, that I feared to think about anything that opposed my christian beliefs, in fear of letting down my god.

I think the difference between theist's and non-theists is intellectual honesty.
I only fear letting down my God through my failures. By failures I mean knowing better and acting out anyway.
You're right in that our interpretation is based upon our philosophical or religious beliefs, but only to an extent. Even though I've been brought up Christian, I still have a free mind. I question things regarding religion on a fairly regular basis, but like I said before, there is just too much out there that points to there being a deity. Take for example the truely spiritual people of many faiths, they have done and experienced things that are utterly unexplainable outside of a connection with the Spirit or "force", lol!
So you believe that theist's are simply fooling themselves and/or hiding/denying the truth from even themselves? Sorry buddy but this doesn't make sense to me.

OH man, guys this is the oldest discussion in the world and it will always be here till the end of humanity. All I can give is that we all owe it to ourselves and childen and wives to research and explore and try to discover the truth with an open mind. It will find you if you seek it.

I was brought up Southern Baptist. I dont believe a lot of the things they preach. I like to read the Bible by quietly by myself just me and God. I like make my own assumptions about God life after life sin.I think a personal relationship with God is more important then sitting in a pue just because its Sunday putting your fake everythings ok smiles on.
