I think in this analogy, we need to know if the guy and the woman have just met or have been dating for awhile. I personally think if a woman or even a man has the genital herpes virus or even the mouth one, that the woman/man should tell them b4 kissing him/her or the relationship gets serious. It is unfair for a guy to not know this and it is his decision to make not the person carrying it. I know it is prob difficult, especially with ppl that have HIV, but you have to put your foot in the other persons shoes. Let them find out what you are like personally first, then after you think they know you pretty well then tell them. If they decide to break it off, then just go on to the next.

I agree!!!!..I was getting pissed with this thread..especially Tman's comment. Sorry.
I contracted mouth cold sores when i was a CHILD, they say passed in casual contact probably from my dad because he's had them since he was a child. I was tested to see which strain it was....Herpes 1 & 2 is pretty much the same virus..just depends on where it hibernates in the body and you need to be tested to find out which one you actually carry because you can have either in either area! A lot of people do not know that one.

I have to say this as well..I was with my ex for 16 YEARS and he never so much as got one cold sore so I do not believe they are contagious as they want you to think, only when they are actual sores and if the other person has an open cut on his/her mouth for a way for the virus to get in, but that's just my opinion from experience. No boyfriend I ever had ever got one that I know of either...but I am VERY careful....if i even think i may be getting one due to stress or being sick then I start my meds and no kissing or oral at all (I take prescription meds they use for genital herpes just a lower dose is needed).....I haven't had one in YEARS either, the virus does go into a type of hybernation and if you know what triggers the outbreak you can stop it. I know for me it's stress and if i am sick with a fever.

People with herpes should stay away from peanuts and almonds and anything else with alot of arginine as the virus feeds on that, so I can't even take that supplement for fear it will cause the virus to come out of "remission"..they say L-Lysine helps keep it under control but I didn't find any difference. Also with herpes, they say the outbreaks lesson over years.

Do you honestly think I like getting cold sores and like to go out in public when i have one...NO!! They are ugly and they hurt and i never asked for it, it just happened!! So....for you to judge a woman (or man) because they have a cold sore just makes me sad and very angry.

I also researched that if you have one strain, you can not catch the other one since it's technically the same virus, just hibernates in a different part of the body but you can pass it to your partner in either area.

I debated whether to confess, but this just pissed me off...

Oh man, that reminds me of my Papa, he's a crazy old fukker from Alabama. One day he was asking me if I knew what a french tickler was, I said yeah, he says well, I never needed em cause I had genital warts. Then he just laughed like hell, gotta love the old guys, they REALLY don't give a shit!

There are rare cases, but it does happen where a person who carries the herpes virus infects a person that has a low immune system and they do not know it other then flu like symptoms, and before they know it the virus becomes systemic and can actually affect a vital organ and cause renal faliure, like the liver. You don't hear about this happening much, but it does happen. I myself, if i were to have it, i would have to be honest and tell the girl i was going out with first before kissing her or anything. Would you be willing to take the chance of this??, i know i wouldn't.

well i guess i can answer this better than anyone! because i was in that situation once. i feel for this gal and i never have forgtot the nite she told me she loved me etc and started crying and i was like wtf wrong and she told me she had herpes.. i was floored ! we had started making love and she stopped and told me before! and ill never forget how she looked and her telling me .. it broke my heart big time for her! i felt so bad for her etc...

no i didnt leave her !!! the next day i made a dr appointment went and gotr educated about it! in fact i went to two dr's! we had a great relationship but we have went our seperate ways since...we still keep in touch !

I don't think it is fair to have taken you along that far without telling you first. As you stated, you already started making love!
