  • Folks Be very Careful..

With purchasing stuff online with your credit or debit card. All websites that you purchase stuff from they claim that your info will be safe, your order is secured through SSL or whatever, complete BS.

Found out few days ago, my dads debit card (He's a Citizens Bank member) was hacked so they deactivated his card. When he called them to see why they told him on Sept 14th someone ordered something from his card 4 times and the website was EMUSIC.COM.

4 charges were two $14, one $90 and the other one $190 all from emusic.com. Now, my dad doesn't use computer at all, I only used his card ONCE to purchase a turbo shaker from www.turboshaker.com because my bank account was frozen cuz stupid me typed the wrong pin number at ATM machine..

Anyways, keep your head up..and minimize your online shopping as much as possible. Whenever going to a bank keep all your receipts with you and all your info..never throw it in a trash.. all your junk mails that might contain some of your personal info..burn it or destroy it..

We are the #1 country in the world when it comes to credit/debit card fraud, identity theft..and such..

Also, social engineering.. can destroy you.. so no matter who calls you even if they have a valid strong reason ask them for their manager or any proof that you can validify their legitimacy.

Thanks for the info! I've gotten a couple of emails in the past from paypal and ebay (I never even used ebay) claiming that something had happened to my acct., and they needed me to verify my card info. I called paypal and they said there was nothing wrong with my acct, that it was a bogus email. These people even give you a link that looks like a legit website but isn't at all.

I work in banking, and I hate internet payments. I don't even push the internet bill payment option to people. It's too risky.
However, Regulation E states that you are responsible for $50 of the initial fraud. But you still have to deal with the aggravation of not having the money for a little until they put the provisional credit in, the investigation, etc...

how do you know it came from that one online purchace? Anytime he used the card beit at a resturaunt or grocery store.. it's electronically stored. It could have been hacked from there.. it could have been written down from that waiter at Red Lobster..

It was emusic.com. Anytime you see the ".com" after a purchase, it's internet. But you are correct. Most people copy your number down from a restaurant, another store, etc.... That's why in January 2006, the credit card machines are not allowed to print your whole number on the receipt. If you go to a store or a restaurant and you see your whole credit card or debit card number on your receipt, call the banking commission.

I know where the card was illegally used. that wasn't what I was talking about.. How they obtained the number is what I was questioning. It could have been taken from anynumber of places where his father used the card.. Not just where Diggi used it on turboshaker.com.

you're only responsible for upto $50 dollars on credit cards anyway. Creditcard companies will do a charge back and youll be fine. Its the merchant that always looses. I have fradulent charges on my merchant account weekly. Its the risk of doing business. there could be worse information out there.

I'VE HAD IT HAPPEN 2 TIMES TOO US. ONCE, SOMEONE GOT MY NUMBER, AND USED IT ALL OVER TOWN FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS. IT WAS A CHECK CARD, SO WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A DEPOSIT AND SEEN THE BALANCE ON THE SLIP, I FREAKED!!! I GOT ALL MY MONEY BACK (NO 50$ CHARGE, BECOUSE "THEY DIDNT HAVE MT CARD")
THE SECOND TIME, GUY TOOK MY WIFE'S WALLET OUT OF HER PURSE AT WORK. HE GOT 200.00 BEFORE THE BANK CUT IT OFF, WE GOT REFUNDED 150.

I would love nothing more than to personally pound the shit out of each individual loser that hacks, and steals from people! They are nothing but scum and need to choke on a bottlecap and drop a hairdryer in the tub!
