my take on this card

hughes beat BJ penn. penn almost finished the fight at the end of the second by a triangle arm bar combo.

his cardio came into question against GSP and his exersion at the end of the second left him unable to defend against hughes who smelled the blood in the water and dominated the 3rd until the ref stoppage after hughes trapped penn on his back with one arm trapped between his legs and the other by one arm allowing him to throw some 30 undefended little short shots. i dont think penn was in any danger of being KO'd but he was taking punishment without any defense and it was stopped.

mike swick also suprised me by beating david loiseau. his quick hands and the take downs wrapped up the decision for him putting him in a contender spot. i guess we will have to see who wins franklin vs silva and perhaps swick will get his shot then.

melvin guillard knocked gabe ruediger out with a brutal body shot. i think i felt it through the TV it hit so hard. right below the sternum. ruediger had melvin in some deep trouble in the first but it wasnt enough. melvin has wicked fast heavy hands and is fun to watch fight. if he can work on his ground game he will be a force in the LW division

speaking of LWs jens pulvers triumphant return to the octagon was anything but. he got KO'd by newcomer lauzon who after grazing pulver with a knee landed a flush shot right on the button. pulver was a good looser and gave props to lauzon and called him the better man.

rashad evans finally disposed of of an opponent, jason lambert, rather than letting it go to the judges. he looked good. ripped and fast. lampert on the other hand looked a little soft and bulky. both are great wrestlers but evans speed kept him from any real trouble although lampert came fairly close to a kimura, the rest of the fight was all evans who landed shots at will and KO'd lampert on the ground. he landed several shots to the semi conscious lampert before it was stopped

sanchez KO's neto it sounded like somone hit a coconut with a hammer

and tson griffin beat up some english guy

hte triangle so=moked bj's legs. matt did look sluggish the first 2 rounds. im glad he didnt fight st. pierre last nite.
