We have a customer who is 79 years old, and is single. He's a very nice man, who has been giving his "niece" money for approximately 1 year. He comes into our branches and withdrawls $4000, $5000, $8,000, whatever, and always says "My niece needs money." So a few weeks ago, he stops into a branch and applies for a $100,000 Home equity loan. His home is paid off, and his pension and social security income qualifies him for the loan. So the girl asks what he's doing with the money. He says "I have some debts to pay off, and my niece needs some." So the girl who took the application calls me and thinks something is fishy about this "Niece". So I call the customer and ask several questions. He assures me, everything is OK and he has no problem doing the equity loan. Over and over, he says "No worries. It's OK".



Fast forward now to yesterday. He stops in a branch to withdrawl some money. He looks at his receipt and notices he has $17,000 left in his account. He asks the teller "Where did all my money go??" Here, he finally admits that his so called "Niece" was actually a woman he met in Atlantic City at a Poker Table. She was scamming him all along, writing checks and withdrawling money. He authorized her to be a joint account holder, so she scammed over $70,000 from him. And poor guy takes a loss because he thought she was really digging him. I hope this woman catches AIDS and herpes and dies a slow painful miserable death.

DAMN!!!! but you have to admit there is a little something not right with the poor gentleman..i mean after the first time most would be like what the heck...and to meet someone at poker table and just ad them to your checking account..heck no. but don't worry i believe what goes around comes around and she will get hers

i agree she's a piece of sh*t...but i feel sorry for the old man. dude probobly just wanted some company...maybe he dont have any family, and needed some type of interaction...to feel needed, appreciated. who know's, maybe he was banging it. sad thing. i think, in the back of his mind, he knew.....he just let it happen.

If he didn't give her permission to his checking account, which apparently he didn't, he can have her ass arrested.

Frankly, I'm not surprised. We heard shit like this alot when I was in LE. What we have here folks is a sad cry for attention. Old guys get the impression that these younger women like them and begin neglecting their regular lively duties to do whatever the lil scank wants. Sad thing is, they don't always get the sex from the tarts. But the woman/women walk off with a shitload of their money and maybe a younger boyfriend.

When I was in the police academy (mega years ago), we were told of a case where an old guy, in his 80's, called the police to report a robbery. He alledged that there was a knock at his door. When he opened the door, a big woman pushed him aside, entered his home, and took his wallet before leaving. Of course, this didn't sound right to the investigating officers so they eventually pried the truth out of him. Which was that he hired a prostitute's service. Upon entering the home and waiting for the guy to undress, she grabbed his wallet and high tailed out the house.

Face it, robbery against elderly men have increased 30% eversince the invention of Viagra and Cialis.

It's unfortunate that the poor guy was duped. Regardless of his intentions and misunderstanding, he holds culpability in this situation. However, I'm sure the poor guy has some legal standing and will be able to obtain somesort of a remedy in his favor.
