Diggi - go to TOAST.NET and do this one since that's what the rest of us used.

Re: Cable vs DSL - what do you think..

      4.2 megabits per second

      Communications 4.2 megabits per second
      Storage 518.5 kilobytes per second
      1MB file download 2 seconds
      Subjective rating Awesome

      Explain results

      Info
      Date & time Thursday, July 27, 4:27PM*
      Test type IDT4 Free
      Connection type Cable
      Region Colorado
      Data size 1024KB

Dude, I did this one 3 times and got 3 totally different speeds. I did the other one 3 times and got the exact same speed each time. I don't think this one is reliable at all. My lowest was 2.5 MB per second. Which, I know from downloading stuff all the time there is no way in hell I can download 225 MB's in 90 seconds, more less 378 MB's in 90 seconds. I download stuff all the time and I know those numbers are not accurate. Not trying to bust your balls bro, just saying why I know they aren't reliable.

Also, according to the site, T1 has a max of 1.54 MB's per second and there is no way cable is faster than T1. T1 is connected directly to the net, no servers to go through.

connection speed and throughput are completely different, this is why speeds are variable

All I know is that Cable Broadband is shared period..so no matter how fast your speed really is once your neighboors start going online your connection speed will decrease..also Cable is more vulnerable and can be easily hacked then DSL. Cable is shared while DSL uses its own dedicated servers.

Regardless you still haven't taken the test the rest of us did. Go to that toast website and see how your service rates up against the rest of us. So far Jipped is in the lead by a decent amount!

Ah, that's why I have an encrypted router. You'd have to be one dedicated hacker just to get through an encrypted router. Which basically rules me out for threat. Who's going to go through all the trouble to hack someone home pc unless they are filthy rich? And even then, there's firewalls, passwords, etc. You'd have to be one dumb person to put anything important on your pc and safeguard it. IMO But, I guess it happens because identitytheft is outof control.

Bro, your router might be encrypted and everything and you might be hard to attack with Denial of Service Attack it would reffuse the extra incoming packets, but what I'm saying is all you people in the same neighborhood use same bandwidth line.. so once you connect yourself to that bandwidth line your computer automaticly becomes vulnerable for attacks.. its a shared open line..
