The Japanese people have become mostly a bunch of pacifist wussies.

This is just classic racisim, anyone who`s lived here for a while knows how much these people love fighting so much that it`s a real problem in schools. The children are bombarded with fighting shows of every flavor, even ones for girls. Japanese cartoons are more violent than any other ones I`ve seen.

In high school while Americans run track play basketball, football, the closest thing to fighting in American sports is wrestling.
In Japanese high school they do Judo, Karate, Kendo (sword style martial arts) and Kyudo (archery). They train the fighting spirit from a young age.

Did you know that the Japanese troops stationed in Iraq are making about $5000/month for hazard pay? And if one of them dies, the family gets about $1,000,000 compensation. This policy would bankrupt them if they went to war. Obviously this policy assumes there will be no war.

Hmmm, now your an economist too? Good luck.

They depend on America to defend them. We're their "rent-a-defense."

This last one is just sheer bull. Anyone who knows anything knows that the Japanese would be more than happy for all American troops to get off of Japan now. Yes, 30 years ago Japan definately needed America to help it`s defence but that was then and this is now. They don`t need us, we need them, the bases in Japan give US troops a stratgic position in Asia and we need that more than Japan needs the 8,000 troops stationed here.

we dont need them for shit....with the cold war over and the fall of comunism, we dont need the presense in the pacific rim like we once did...The japanese might not want us there, but there govt isnt stupid...they do....the only deterant there defense poses is the presense of the united states there.

I've lied? Interesting. So you mean that I have intentionally told falsehoods? Could you give me an example? Or do you mean that I lie every time I say something you disagree with?

[QUOTE=superdog]First you say that Japan can`t have the #2 Economy (because statistics can be debated...) the you say that OH GOLLY GEE I DUN JUST GOOGLED IT AND IT IS #2 AFTER ALL.

I NEVER said "Japan can't have the #2 Economy." Perhaps you are confusing my statement that Japan doesn't have the #2 military despite the budget figures you showed. I challenge you to find where I said, "Japan can't have the #2 economy." I have been aware that Japan was the #2 world economy since that song "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors came out around 1980.

Superdog, I feel like anything I will say will just piss you off so I will keep it short with just one first strike option that North Korea has. Imagine this AP wire report:

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea fired a confirmed three nuclear missiles Tuesday, two of which hit their targets in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. The third missile apparently fell harmlessly into the Sea of Japan, and U.S. officials said a long-range Taepodong-2 was not launched. The Japanese government response thus far has been slow and trepid. All of greater Tokyo and Osaka were destroyed along with their inhabitants, which included the Emperor, Empress, Crown Prince, most of the upper and lower Diet, and Prime Minister Koizumi. Many American citizens living in Tokyo and Osaka are presumed dead, including Superdog from the well respected discussion board Fitness Geared.

          Superdog,

I couldn't quote you up in post #16 because you had put your comments inside my quotes somehow. But this is in response to post #16.

Is it racist to say that Japanese are a nation of pacifist wussies? Would it be better if I gave it a positive spin and called them noble peace advocates?

As far as student fighting in schools go, I'm not sure that is related to the subject of Japan's military readiness. But if it is I would pit a South Central LA public high school against the worst crime ridden violent high school in Japan and I'd give odds of 1,000,000 to 1.

Martial arts in school seems like it could potentially have military applications. Do you have any statistics on that? I'd be interested in knowing the breakdown of what martial arts Japanese soldiers are proficient in. I might have to keep that in mind next time I'm drunk and step on a Japanese soldiers' toes.

            Yes Rage, it is racist.
Can I say "all blacks love drugs" and not be racist?
Can I say "all Mexicans love to fight" and not be racist?

I don`t care about your "positive spin" but when you make racist remarks then you`d better be prepared to back them up with facts. And you should be prepared for the fact that your going to make people angry.

Well, IMO you have once again attacked the messenger rather than my message. Rather than discussing the merits behind Japan's wussy military image/status you prefer to call me a racist. You are an angry young man in love with the japanese military and I can't reason with you. I hope you will let this thread end now without flaming me anymore.

Rage, I`m sorry that you feel that way but it is racist to say that all people of a certain race do or are "xyz". You just can`t say "All Mexicans are ..."

You are not discussing the merrits of Japan`s military, you are attacking Japanese culture and people. And, again I`m sorry that you feel that I`m attacking you but it is truely your message that I am against.

It is interesting, I feel that you are the angry person who hates Japanese people and that I cannot reason with you.

Having said that, will I let this thread die? Sure let`s let bygones be bygones.

That's cool, Superdog. I won't put in any final points (even though several come to mind). I look forward to future posts with you and maybe we can hit those Tokyo night spots some time together.
