The guy is 45. And to answer your questions about Japanese manners, this is WAY out of line.
IF (and even then he`d still be kinda out of line) I was an 18 year old part time worker moving boxes in a wharehouse.... comes in 1 hour late stinking like alcholol... well that probably happens occasionally in Japan. BUT the Japanese are really paticluar about touching other adults. Shaking hands is a novelty to them and sometimes older women are a little nervous. Hugging almost never happens in this country even in families.
But from man to man... out of the question.
Hell, the reason I didn`t immedately tee off on him when he did it was that I was so shocked that it even happened - it was like I couldn`t believe it had actually happened.
