It only says original configuration...when I trouble shoot both my PCI Simple Communications controller, CMI8330 C/3D Audio Adapter have a question mark with an exclamation point over it...would the CMI8330 be my sound card?

check in the device manager... if there is still the question mark, it means it doesn't have the proper driver or it's not working...
reinstall the drivers (either from the cd that came with the card or from the net)
it shoudl work if u install new drivers.....

yes its the series of the card manufacturer. try updating your driver to see if that makes the question mark go away

btw , im finally glad i found something i know you dont

                    try maybe this driver:
PC Chips cmi8330 driver. PC Chips Sound Card Drivers. cmi8330.zip (These are the Windows 98 drivers for cmi8330 onboard sound for the M571 motherboard. I tried some of the other drivers on here, but they didn't work properly. I dug around in my stash and found the CD that came with the motherboard. I also have the WIN95, NT4 versions of the onboard sound. I also have the cmi8338 drivers, and onboard video drivers.) This site maintains listings of sound card drivers available on the web, organized by company. Includes links to useful resources.
