  • Rock and roll history

Did you know that Rock n Roll was banned from the airwaves in Mexico as late as 1971? Or that China in 67 tried to use fake Rock n Roll to turn the political advantage in British Hong Kong. The Brits responded with public (ie. loudspeakers mounted on office buildings) broadcasts of Rolling Stones and won. In Poland at the same time posession of a rock reccord would get you 8 years in prison?

There was a system of making novelty plastic postcards that you could reccord onto with a record player in Eastern Europe in the 60`s-70`s. But if you bought a post card from under the counter it was pre recorded with the Beatles, Rolling Stones or Led Zepplin. To posess one of these sent you straight to a labor camp.

To those in the Eastern Bloc who took risks in the name of Rock and Roll and freedom I salute you, I think rock and roll brought eastern Europe into the fold more than nukes did.

You guys may flame me for this thread but when I learned this information I became more thankful than ever for our constitution granted freedom of expression.
God bless our founding fathers for their foresight, God Bless America.

America is not perfect but America is in the lead and the world is following. It is not our army that moves the world but our culture.

Why would anybody flame you for that? Everybody loves ROCK. Of course ROCK helped spread freedom around the globe. It's all about freedom, baby! I see you're in Japan. Do you know how Paul McCartnery was banned from Japan for marijuana for many years? Yet in Japan The Beattles are the biggest thing since Japonica Rice.

I mean, it's terrific. Right? So you know, I am in heaven."--Schwarzenegger

          Re: Rock and roll history

I just wanted to give a shout out to all the rockers who took risks (that we never had to) to bring rock and roll to their friends.
