Get an HP, they have a reboot function built into your computer where if you have to erase the harddrive and go back to factory shipping condition you can without the hassle of any disks. This is good for if you get a lot of spyware or viruses because it erases every single thing (yes even stuff you don't want erased) but atleast you can put your computer back to the same state of efficiency it was the day you bought it. Only problem is, although they say it's not possible, I think it makes your backup system more corruptable than if you were to have a standard backup disk.
I have a power surge hooked up to it .I thought it was supposed to protect appliences isnt that what there suppose to do ?
A UPS will do more than that - it will also provide short-term battery backup power for your system that will kick in instantly when power fails, so you can shut down your system safely. It connects the same way as any power strip with surge protection and will also provide surge protection. A surge protector alone for desktop systems nowadays is not enough.

Power surges are for controlling things like electrical spikes such as lightning. A UPS is a back up energy source so that when the power dies your pc still keeps running. Sometimes windows XP gets all wacky when it's shut down improperly.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.
