I wanted to see what you guys think of Barry Bonds. I personally can't stand the guy. I hate the fact that he passed the greatest baseball player ever yesterday on the homerun list. With that said, I also believe that you have to give him credit. I don't know of any steriod that improves hand eye cordination and your ability to hit a 90 mph fastball. Maybe they have enabled him to hit it farther but he still has to get his bat on the ball. What do you all think?

I have a bro that played ball back in the day,..he said barrys dad was "a stuck up the ass big *"! his words, not mine. Do steroids really turn you into this incredible superhuman bad ass ? if so I wanna try some...

Barry may be pompous, and he may a stuck on himself, but next to Pujols, he's one of the purest hitters in baseball. Steroids don't give you coordination to connect with the ball. they give you the strength to turn a 350 foot fly ball into a 400 foot home run. But you still have to have the eye to hand coordination to connect with the ball. Even since he's off the juice, he's still hitting the ball. Where as a case of Sammy Sosa, he was smart and decided to retire since he would be back to an average .200 fly ball hitter. Bottom line, Barry's attitude may suck, but he can still hit.

It's not so much the hand eye but the fact that his swing got faster. I watched a video where they analyzed his swing speed the first few years in the majors and then the last few years. His actual swing speed is faster than any batter, ever. So, what that does is allow him to make sure the ball is going to be where he wants it before he swings. To think he shouldn't get credit for what he did is silly. There are records in baseball, football, track, and a lot of other sports that get broken by sports enhancement drugs. The only difference is some guys get caught and some don't. It still doesn't change the fact that most current athletes and one time or another have used something. So what, they still had to do the work to get there. Also, if I'm going to pay $200 a seat to go to a Football game you can bet your ass I want to see 230 lb RB's running a 4.4 forty or faster.

he is the best PLAYER in baseball, and just like anyother sport....the athletes now are better, bigger, stronger, faster..and everything else than the other generation of athletes. Babe Ruth wouldnt have made the minors in todays game...plain and simple. So, that being said, i believe there are alot of players...i mean alot that took AAS just like he did, and the fact is, they still were not as good as him. The playing field has been level...you shouldnt even count them old timers records. They were not facing Randy Johnson, or Clemens, or maddox and many others.

And the other thing I always argue about, remember Gaylord Perry? What was Gaylord Perry's best pitch? His vasoline ball. He struck reggie jackson out about 40 times with his vasoline ball. He's been tossed out of MANY games for being caught using vasoline on the baseball. Gaylord's a Hall of Famer. I was dead set aginst him going in for cheating. He was caught cheating, and was still awarded by getting a spot in the hall. So if he can get in, I say let Bonds in as well (Believe me, I'm about 7 years premature on this argument. But when the time comes for Barry to HOF, this steroid issue will play a huge part in the decision)

But they were facing comparable talent. As the hitters get better so do the pitchers. I agree that athletes have gotten better and the old school players couldnt make a team today but the fact is they were facing the same caliber players that they were. I totally agree that alot of other players have taken AAS and I agree that they have not reached the level that he has. I dont agree that you shouldnt count the old records. These guys were doing it at alot of the same fields or atleast the same distances as the new guys are, against talent that was equal to them at the time.

all i am saying is that in an era of the best, where everyone was using AAs , bonds is the best...if he was the only one, then wipe the record out...

I totally agree. There is no doubt that he is a great pure hitter. I know alot of guys that use AAS, none of which can hit a baseball like Bonds.

Here is something to ponder- What if Babe had access to AAS. Like the sign said, "He hit his on beer and hot dogs".

No doubt, it would have been interesting. The guy had a career batting average of over .340. So he was a pure hitter. But then again, things were a lot different back then. You could use heavier bats, the fielders weren't as quick and as agile. I'm not saying Babe wouldn't have done well if he were playing today. But his B.A. wouldn't be over .340 today. The whole infielder line up has progressed tremendously over the past 70 years. Guys like Ozzie Smith have set a higher standard for athletic ability.

Babe also spent the first however many years of his career as a pitcher, not getting the AB's he did later in his career.

I agree! Taking steroids doesn't make you a super athlete if you weren't already a great athlete. You still have to train hard and improve your skills as anyone else. It's just like this guy I knew who thought drinking protein shakes was going to make him gain muscle without having to workout. You still have to bust your balls and have skills when taking any type of performance enhancer. Hence the name "performance enhancer" meaning if you don't already have great performance, you will not be enhanced by much.

i hate baseball. not only because it's a boring ass sport, but because it's responsible for the current AAS legislation that's putting non-violent, tax paying, normal people in jail.

it is responsible for the AS control act of 1990

it is responsible for the media frenzy which has brought the new legislation that will take effect in november.
