  • Speaking of Davinci Code

A regular average ordinary everyday person took a FULL PAGE ad out in the local newspaper today (approx $1200?). What the ad said was "The DaVinci code is fiction. Read your Bible!" Now, I ask you, why would you take out a full page ad to say this message? Are you that threatened by your own religion that you feel the need to run a full page ad telling people "Don't believe what you see on TV! read the Bible!" Come on now. How rediculous is that.

Allow me to make a counter-point:

Everyday we are exposed to advertisements trying to get us to do something that will make someone else richer, and yet we rarely complain. But when someone wants you to read the Bible…..….

I respect you opinions AOM, and thank God we live in a country where someone tries to convert us thru a newspaper ad and not a car bomb.

Cheers………..I gotta get back to work

Several local churches here are having special meetings to discuss the movie and a few other churches are organizing trips to the theaters to protest the opening. I guess fiction requires protests ?

I rarely support protest or street demonstrations that are religious in nature, for the most part they turn people off and make them more resistant to the message.

It's all about being logical and most people believe what they are trained to believe, they don't look at things in a logical sense. Although a lot of the things in 'The Da Vinci Code' is fictional some does have factual basis. Most refuse to believe it because they are to trained to think a cerain way. So of course they are afraid when something is a break from the norm.

In an infinite universe where reality is interpreted through our continually fluctuating perception providing any absolute definitive proof of anything becomes a little more than pure speculation based on random data.

Believe in what you want, not in what you are told to.

                    Re: Speaking of Davinci Code

You know what I think it is with me? I opened up the paper and seen this huge full page add saying read your bible. Don't believe the daVinci code. What bothers me is that because that ONE single person who took out the add was so easily influenced, they thought the rest of America was so mindless that they felt threatened and felt they needed to take the ad out. Know what I mean? Like, they were saying "Oh my God. This movie is going to make people turn against the Catholic faith and believe the Bible is wrong, yada yada yada. So now, I must spread the word that the Bible is real and the movie is NOT!!!!' Well, duh. 99% of Americans aren't as gullible or threatened by a movie like this person was. After I saw JAWS, didn't take an ad out saying "Don't swim in the Ocean! There's large sharks that can kill you!" If you're that threatened by a movie, maybe that person was the one with the real issue. Taking out the newspaper ad I guess made themself feel more assured and secure. I don't know. I get aggitated by the smallest dumbest things I guess.

AOM: I have the exact opposite perception as you. I believe that people are very gullible fools. Trends and buying behavior I believe support my argument. Children and adults idolize famous people because of their fame. I applaud Cameron Diaz for not autographing shit. I have never understood how someone can value the signature of someone else over their own. What makes a signature the holy grail other than the admiration of others who are just …………….I could ramble forever. My position is in the first two sentences.

                        Re: Speaking of Davinci Code

I think what it all boils down to is that the vast majority of people are lazy. They would rather have someone tell them how to do something rather than figure it out themselves. In this case of religion they would rather be told someones point of view and adopt it as their own instead of researching for themselves to come up with their own view. I think that is why the church feels so threatened by this movie.

I am a Christian and I have read the book. But since I have done the research this book doesnt shake my faith in the least. It is a great story about a fictional topic. And what the church needs to realize is that from the begining of the Christian faith it has been coming up against oppostion like this. This too will run its course and we wont hear about it a year from now but churches will still be preaching the word of God this time next year.
