A baptist church (remember that the term baptist doesn't really imply a certain collection of beliefs as baptist is more of a generic term used by many independant churchs) is protesting the funerals of soldiers.

Well, I believe in God and was raised Christian. Therefore I view myself as Christian, however I am still working through all of the questions that I have about beliefs.

Typically I disagree with terms such as "nutball Bible Thumper", but in this case I completely agree with the description. They are mis-using the Bible. Plus, the Old Testament is filled with war both blessed and condemed by God.

I get your point SE, and I agree. My point is, you take 2 people, give them 2 of the same Bibles. Give them each a week to read it, then ask them to interpret. You will more than likely get 2 totally different answers on what the bible says.
In my religion, it takes a person 8 years in a seminary to become a preist. 8 YEARS!!!! How can someone read the bible once or twice, then become a self proclaimed "expert" on what the bible says?

Religion is deeper and more complex than rocket science, yet so simple. We will never know or understand all. I have been doing more research on this topic lately. I have stopped reading the bible and have been studying various intrepretations of biblical principles. I just finished an audio book, Case for Christ. I learned a lot. I grew up in an old school protestant home. It is easy for people with my background to just accept what they were taught. But I have been challenging my thoughts and have enjoyed and found comfort in the learning process.

that is true there was also animal sacrifice, it does it still appy if you believe the Bible Jesus died for our sins and changed the whole scope of the Bible. after his death and resurection there were no more animal sacrifices to God. also Jesus taught to turn the other cheek. notice the only wars in the Bible is in the old testament. or yet to come in revelation

Revelations is New Testament. I understand the peaceful teachings of Christ. However this women believes that God is punishing people by killing their children (soldiers). I don't think that is taught by Christ either. My statment wasn't intended to be all inclusive or encomapassing, just a point to a bigger argument.

I'm with all of you. The reason for most relgious conflicts "IMHO" is the fact that there is always some radical who takes what they read out of context and applys it to their current situation and calls it Gods word. To each his own though, that is the downside to freedom of speech but that is just the way it works even though many of us may not agree with it..

For people to acutally hold up a sign saying that God "Hates" anybody is crazy to me. In my opinion, no matter how you interpret the bible, you cant actually believe God hates anybody. God loves everyone no matter how many times you sin and betray him. I cant believe some people.

I don't want to lump all Baptists into the same nutcase basket but the baptist church my co-worker goes to is similar. He (they) claim that since they've accepted Jesus as their savior they're guaranteed a spot in heaven. I said if you claim Jesus as your savior but go out and molest a bunch of kids you're still going to heaven and he said yes. This same group refers to gays as faggots and dike queerballs. He was livid when a group of baby-boomer age gay couples bought this old dilapidated factory and are having it restored as condos for gay couples. He moved his family out of town. I asked why he was so upset and he said i don't want those queerballs living near me and looking at me and stuff. I said dude it doesn't matter, gay or straight, NOBODY wants to look at your saggy fat ass. I also noticed the chick on Hannity was like all the other zealots i've seen, state why you're right and yell REALLY loud over whoever has a differing viewpoint. She'd get her ass handed to her if her freaky little group protested a military funeral around here. There'd be a huge jump in business for the local funeral homes. Crazy ass *****.
