So tonight I'm driving home and I turn onto my street and i'm going probably like 30-40 mph. Then I stop in front of my house and when I get out one of my neighbors drives by and yell's that if I drive fast like that again he would call the police. My question is, I know he can call the police, but can they do anything to me?

Re: question
I hear ya Evil. I do believe on most residential roads/streets its 25 mph? I know on my street is 25 mph.
I have lived in my neighborhood since I was a lil girl....about 6 months ago I was driving on my street and prob doing 35-40 mph and an old man walking actually shook his hand at me and began walking out in front of me to make me slow down and then held up two fingers and five fingers (meaning 25 mph). I thought to myself....jeesh what balls this old man has....I'm grown and he wants to shake his fist and show me his fingers to indicate the speed limit....I wanted to cuss at him a bitI was embarrassed afterwards tho.

Re: question
To answer your question they can but it wont go anywhere. He would have to show for court and it would be your word against his about how fast you were going. He would have no proof as to your actual speed so the judge would toss it out. I know i went thru this last summer tearing ass down my street in my Vette at 3am.

Re: question
No offense to anyone, but I get pissed off when people speed in a freaking neighborhood!!!! I mean there are kids on bikes, kids running after basketballs and footballs, people walking there pets...etc, there is absolutely no need to speed in a freaking NEIGHBORHOODand you shouldn't be mad for someone telling you to slow down! That is why people have neighborhood watch and pay home association fees for. It's a neighborhood, not a drag strip! Think about other peoples safety versus saving yourself an extra 5 seconds!!!

Re: question
Well ER, I don't have much to add to what has already been said. But I agree with the consensus that you should slow down. Imagine how much pain you would cause if you hit a child - or even someone's dog. I think I have become more aware of this since I became a father, but its something to think about seriously.

Re: question
Yeah, I live 2 miles down a windy dirt camp road and this time of year the "summer people" from out of state fly down through here! For one, it's a private road, so it's hard to enforce a speed limit but we still have it posted at 15 miles and 10 in some places where it's curved....the road isn't wide enough in some places for 2 cars to pass...not to mention what Sup said about kids, bikes, and people walking their dogs (which half the time aren't on leashes and SHOULD be)
i will admit to having a lead foot, though, i catch myself at times going too fast.. lol----------------------------------------------------------------

Re: question
It's the way he said it that made me mad. He wasn't even MAN enough to get out of his car and come up to my face and say it. If I for example had a problem with him speeding, I would go to him and POLITELY ask him not to speed on our street. I wouldn't go yell and threaten him to call the police. I don't speed on purpose, it just happens sometimes. And to be honest, our speed limit on our street is 25 and I was going anywhere between 30-40, so it's not like I was flying. And I kind of knew the police can't really do anything, but he's the typical p***y that runs and calls the police for no reason. Like when I was a kid in chicago and one of the kids in my neighborhood came to my house talkin shit and got his ass beat. So what does his mommy do, call the police. And of course they couldn't do anything to me cause the idiot came to my house threatining me. I hate people like that. I'll keep it under 25 from now on for everyone's safety, but it's beef between me and him. Every time I see him from now on. Sorry everyone just tryin to vent some anger.

Re: question
just slow down. of course when someone yells at you and belittles you, sure, its natural to feel anger towards that person. if someone yelled at me and was degrading or degrading tone i'm not gonna say "you know, that was a nice thing he said to me." of course you're going to be upset. just let it roll off your back, and slow down. simple as that. this situation is in no need of a confrontation of any sort.
