Dont give the diamond to a new girl, that's bad karma if you ask me. Not to mention tacky, even if she never finds out. I kept my engagement ring after we broke up for 9 months in a cabinet and finally I just had to sell it because it was a bad memory lurking around. My mom wanted to have the diamond but I wouldnt let her.
Do what you feel you need to do, and what is right in your mind.
yeah i agree man... i dont think i would give it to a new girl just because i would know where it came from everytime i saw it..
i would either save it for a daughter, if i ever have one... but would prefer some cash now!!

I'm Just an old chunk of Coal, But I'm gonna be a DIAMOND some day.
You may not get fair value in a sale, but a jeweler might trade the stone for a comparable one if you explain your story. Of course you will need the papers.
would like to get atleast half of what I paid... so 1500$... but im not sure that is a reality
1 ct
I color
vsI 2
A 1ct. I color diamond with a VS2 for $1500? Damn, you're letting it go cheap as sin. Are you sure those are the specs on it? A 1ct I color Princess cut should be in the range of approx $5000 a ct.

I agree with AOM. I think my wife's ring carries the same grade, and I believe it is valued at about $5,500. I'd hold out for much more than that from anyone.
lxorl, i agree with them. I talked with my dad tonight. If the cut is good and the stone is not flourescent your looking at getting what you paid for it. what is the clarity? I thought it was a SI2?
there are alot of little things that can throw a diamonds value. see what it says about the following on the cert and I can get you a accurate value, then I can tell you what you should look to get for it.
1. is it flourescent?
2. cut rating? good/fair/poor
3. depth %- should be between 58-62
4. is the cert EGL?

actually, it is exactly $5300 per ct as of todays international pricing. It will be tough for him to get full price but a jeweler would buy it 30-40% back off the full list price.
the cert says the resale is close to 7K.... i paid 2800 for the lose diamond... another 300 for the platinum setting...
i was just going off teh 3K I spent on it.... and assume i wont get close to what I paid. Ill start shopping it around but i dont expect to get close to the 3K I paid for it.

Platinum setting! wow! Add another $600 to the ring. If you want $1500 for it, IM me and I'll send you the cash out asap. I really would, but then I would feel like I bent you over, so forget it.
There are MAAAAAANY things people ehre don't know about me. I'm like Austin Powers, international man of mystery. Only I'm from PA, not really international. But I have a jewelry related past too. Diamonds are like stocks. Buy a diamond today at $3000, and in a few years, it may be worth $5000. Or it could be $2500. Diamonds by no means are rare. Diamonds are in abundance. Rubies, Tanzanite, Emeralds, and sapphires are more rare than Diamonds. But since diamonds are the national Engagement stone of America, the market drives the price up. Princess cut diamonds too are one of the most sought after and toughest cuts out there too. Fortunately, you have a beautiful piece of jewelry there. Unfortunately, since you aren't known as "LXORL the jeweler", people are reluctant to buy a diamond off some guy on the street. Even though market says your ring is worth approx $6000 with a platinum setting, since you're LXORL the office worker, people have a natural wall that says "I don't know what I'm buying off this guy!" Ebay is a horrible choice to sell a ring, or any piece of jewelry on for that matter. No one is going to pay even close to retail on a ring they haven't seen before, or get a chance to look at close up. Your best bet, IMO, is take your ring to a well respected jeweler, and trade it for a nice Movado or Rolex. Most jewelers will give you fair market trade on a ring, but not cash. If you are looking to sell your ring, you'll have better luck in the local newspaper than you will on ebay. People feel more comfortable knowing where you live if they buy a diamond off you. That way if you sell them a piece of glass, they can, and probably will, shoot out every window in your house and car. As compared to someone buying it on ebay, and not even knowing your real name. And when they come to your house, let them know "Hey, I'm not going to sell you a piece of glass. You know where I live for God's sake!" Generally in the newspaper, you can put something like "1ct princess cut, I color, platinum setting, paid $7000, asking $4200." Then, someone will come in and probably offer you $3000 to $3500. Just my .02 shillings.
