  • Thinking of changing gyms...

Sorry about the rant but I have to vent...

I belong to a gym that has pretty decent equipment (lots of Hammer), open 24/7, and is generally not too packed to get a good workout in. The problem is that the phucking high school kids come in, sit around on equipment, play grab ass and crap like that.

Now don't get me wrong.....I have NO PROBLEM telling some punk kid to move his ass out of my way if he is sitting on a bench talking on his cell phone. But I feel like I should not have to, that should be an employee's job. To tell members what is expected of them and what is good gym etiquette and what is not. If it were only a few kids it would not be a problem but when school lets out until around 11PM the kids FLOCK to the place.

I guess I should just have a talk with the gym owner. But he is a damn weirdo too. Plays gospel music over the speakers (I just wear an MP3 anyway).

To make matters worse, I get to train free there so I kind of hate to say anything about it but enough is enough.

Sorry.........just had to get it off my chest.

    Whoa dude that's rough!
No offense, but gospel music and kids..hmmm. Ror me sometimes, part of a great workout is being in a gym with a great atmosphere and fellow bodybuilders that help inspire you.

I would have a word with the owner OR anonymously slip a letter to him.
If those methods don't work, I'd get others who feel the same to petition.

Hope all works out for you.
    Good luck to you bro.
    Rock On!

I do....my work schedule does not let me go at the same time every day. But when I am there at the romper room time, I just sit there and think "This is ridiculous".

The gym owner is a strange, strange dude. He used to be messed up in rec drugs quite a bit and since then has had a "religious turnaround". Hence the church music (it's not actually gospel, but the Christian rock crap). I mean, I am not expecting him to play Marilyn Manson every day (would be nice though) but damn...

He probably wonders why no serious BBers or powerlifters come to his place and trust me, the whole situation has been brought to his attention before. Does no good.

Oh well........I guess I will just suffer through it. I am a cheap bastid and don't want to have to start paying for a membership somewhere else because he has good equipment and DB's up to 150lbs. No other place around has that here unless you want to drive 25 miles to Little Rock.

That sucks man, I've read alot about gyms like this. Over at elitefts they have a soyg (sick of your gym) section for stories like this. All I can tell ya is get in, hit it hard and get the hell out.

Most HS kids are pretty respectful to their peers when in a gym. Especially somebody that looks like you. They are teenagers, they don't pay attention, just let them know...i'm sure they wont get all pissy with you and i'm sure it will work itself out. Befriending them for a minute or two and letting them know who you are will help as well. when they know you they will move without you even asking. Thats how it is in my gym anyways...

How much is membership? I'm assuming it's cheap since there are a lot of kids. A gym which is a little more expensive won't have that problem. I know, cause I work at one. We hardly have young kids. They all go to Planet Fitness cause it's dirt cheap.

Ask the owner to post a public display of the gym etiquette. Then, when they are dilly dallying around just get their attention and point to the sign. One of the rules should be: "No damn cell phones, unless you are a doctor. Period!"

There are two dipshits at my gym that spend more time on their phone than they do lifting. I have walked over and just stripped their wieght before because they are walking around the gym talking. When they come back, they don't say anything, they just wait until I'm done and then they screw off some more.

You really cant do nothing about this but ignore it. They have the right to sit down and look stupid but its up to you to ignore it or change the gym. But I'm sure everygym has some daydreamers that you just have to deal with.

I don't allow cell phones at my place. Doctors, firefighters, emt's and a couple of tow truck drivers are the only exceptions.

And T's right, if you walk away and start bs'n around you deserve to get your station swooped up on!

I don't know about your gym but i have a gym etiquette sheet attached to their new member packet that clearly states the ins and outs covering everything i've read from people on these boards.

You might think you're blowin off steam but it helps me weed out problems in my place. Thanks for that.

Just stand by where they are and fart. They'll disperse very quickly without having to say a word!
