My dryer is not getting hot enough to dry those clothes. We have to run it two cycles. I've been told that it's the heating element and I've been told it's the thermostats. Does anyone know? Both my sources are reliable and their answers are legit both they both contradict one another. I looked into the parts and they are not returnable, so I don't want to buy something for nothing. Thanks.

Re: Who know appliances?
It sounds like the heating element t-man. At least that would be my guess. My sister burnt her's out by not cleaning the lint filter often enough. As far as replacing it goes I would probaly just go and by a new one for the warranty. The new GE high efficiency ones are awesome.

Re: Who know appliances?
It doesn't have to be a GE, but most all of the new High Efficiency washers and dryers use wayy less detergent, less water, less electricity. Out of the gate they are a little more expensive than plane jane washers and dryers but worth it with the $$$ you'll save. JMO though

Re: Who know appliances?
They're pretty advanced as far as washers and dryers go too. They got all of the cycle's for the wife's delicates and etc... you know what I mean. Crap that guys don't really care about but the Mrs.'s loves..
If u get one let me know. A buddy of mine is a service rep for all of the HE appliances and showed me a few things to make em' last even longer..

Re: Who know appliances?
Have you checked to see if the exhaust kine for the dryer is stopped up with lint? I have seen this happen before and this will also slow down the drying process.
Next question, is the dryer getting hot on the inside? If not, then it is probaly the elelment.Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

Re: Who know appliances?
Most likely it is the thermostat. My dryer has two of them because it has two heating elements. It all depends on how old your dryer is. Mine are 16yr old Maytag washer and dryer and still going strong. I have a service guy that does appliances on the side for a very good price. You can check if you are getting power at the two terminals going to the thermostats with a 220v ac/dc voltage meter. The thermostats are round shaped and you can take them off easily with a screwdriver. Just make sure to unplug your dryer first, lol! You don't want to get another electricty going thru you. My thermostats ran 30. each. So its not like they are real expensive. The heating elements, although i guess they can go out, but it is just like a coil. Not much ever goes wrong with them. Its usually the thermostats that blow. You might want to check the blower and see if it is clogged or the belt is still good. You have to take the front pannel off to do this.Last edited by mick-G; 02-26-2006, 11:22 PM.

Re: Who know appliances?
Go to GE appliance website, I am almost certain they have a hotline number where they will help you diagnose problem, and tell you specifically which part you need etc.
I'm guessing, yet, had a service guy out on range once and that's how he handled the call since the range was old, he said anyone could call.
good luck
