    That is too bad, cause if they actually adopted you, your adoptive parents would have had the probate courts petition for adoption, which would have had your real parents last name as well are your first name, had they given you one. I would first pay the $35. to get the non-identifying information. That in itself may give you some leads. Also, if you happen to know the adoption agency that handled it would be very helpfull. If this doesn't work, you may have to pay the $300. It is a chance you may have to take, but if say you find out the reason for your parents giving you up was for financial reasons, or your birth mother was a single parent that gave you up. Then she may have not left any open disclosures for contact, but the departement that handles the $300. fee i think actually does the search and will contact the birth parents and will send them a letter if they will consider contact from you, and that is part of what the $300. goes for, but if they can't find a listing in their search your $300. is out the door. It is a chance, but one you may have to consider.
