The condo I just bought has an unactivated alarm system. Is there a way that I can hook up the alarm without activating the service. All I want is the sound it makes if the door is opened.

Yes, as long as the power to the alarm itself is hooked up then it will make the noise if set off. Call the company that provides the service for the system and let them know that you don't want to pay the monthly fee or whatever.

If the previous owner shut off the service, hell call the company and ask them. They should do it without charge or at least tell you how to do it since the system was purchased from them.Comment
