  • Selectiing a Gym

I'm in the process of finding a new gym. I was wondering what everbody looks for in a gym. Big, little, weights only, pools, security, etc.

I GO TO THE YMCA...THEY HAVE CHEAPER RATES, LESS FOLKS WORKING OUT WHICH MEANS I NEVER HAVE TO WAIT FOR MACHINES, AND WAY CHEAPER THAN GOLDS OR WORLD GYM IN OUR AREA.

    $22 FOR SINGLE MEMBERSHIP
YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THAT OUT IN YOUR AREA

I LIKE MY GYM BECAUSE IT'S SMALLER, YET HAS ALL THE EQUIPMENT NEEDED, NEVER BUSY, GOOD PEEPS AT THE TIMES I'M THERE, HAVE ACCESS TO LOCKER ROOM, SAUNA AND THE GUY WHO RUNS THE NIGHT SHIFT USSUALLY WHEN I'M THERE IF MY ROUTINE ISN'T DONE HE KEEPS IT OPEN A LITTLE LONGER, LOOK FOR A GYM THAT YOUR COMFORTABLE W/ YOUR SURROUNDINGS.

Power rack wide and deep enough (from front to back) so I can do my squats and walkouts, plenty of free weights, don't care about cardio stuff, or size of gym, if it has a decent power rack then I am usually good to go...since I am a powerlifter, alot of what I do is out of the rack...Hammer strength equip is a good perk as well.

i look for an abundance of benches (both flat and incline), squat racks, two different types of leg presses, multiple dumbell racks going to 150... basically loads of shit so when it gets crowded you have lots of options

like PL2000 said, hammer strength is a nice bonus as well

I look for places that look like a gym, they need a puck bucket next to the squat rack that will give you a hint if its a real gym LOL

                Re: Selectiing a Gym

Local smaller gyms are always better then big ones i.e Golds, Worlds, ETC.. its hard to find a good local gym that has all the good equipment.. but if you have one go for it. And the prices are MUCH MUCH lower than the big ones.. also don`t let the big gym fool you.. it might be 4000 square feet place with alien looking machines that you will never really use..

pure fitness is good here. it has a great variety and has like 10 of each thing so you never have to wait even in the busy hours. tons of hammer stength stuff, although i dont like it very well. 22 bucks-open 24hrs m-f
