I think upper back is better, but i think one thats long and spans across the lower back could be pulled off. But a little centered one would look gay.

I think it more or less depends on the guy. I mean, look at Sully from the group God Smack, he has "XXX" on his lower back and a tribal sun around his belly button. He get's ALOT of women, so that doesn't make him gay! (Although I think Sully is running out of room for tats)

Not to mention hes a rock star with money, he could get a pink dolphin on his ankle as still get laid everynight, his tats mean nothing to females........
