VSI is the grade rating of the imperfections in the stone, E is the grade for the color of the stone. D is the best color you can get and is virtually colorless. The higher you go d, e, f, g, h, i the more yellows, grays, in the stone which keeps light from refracting=less brilliance and shine and lowers the value of the stone. The S stands for "slightly" and I stands for "included". Slightly included stones should not be seen with the naked eye, only under at least 50X magnification. These imperfections (pits and marks, bubbles) in the stone are caused by pressure in the carbon and the heat when the stone is formed naturally. It can take thousands of years for a small diamond to form. So if you have a stone with less of these imperfections the more the value. VVSI, i believe is the least included. So in that, if you were to have a D color VVSI stone it would be the closest to perfect as you could get. You really have to look at alot of stones to really notice differences. That is why i pick the E here because there is not much of a diff between it and a D. Now if you start going into F, H you can start seeing color if you compare them. My wifes is a D color VSI. The higher in quality you get, say from D VVSI to a E VVS2 can mean thousands of $. I hope this makes sence, lol.
