ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT PRICES IS I PAY WAY TO FRICKING MUCH FOR WHAT I GET AND SEE AT MY GYM, BUT THE ONLY 2 REASONS WHY I LIFT THERE IS THERES NOT MUCH FOR CHOICES AND IT LOOKS LIKE VENICES OLD SCHOOL GOLDS.

                  Re: Gym Prices

Well it appears I have 3 choices. One is $30/month per person, but with a $230 membership fee! The same gym offers a month-to-month membership for $45/month, with a $50 membership fee. I am told that the total payment equals out after a year. It is pricey, but they have everything I could want. It is not a hardcore gym, but there isn't one of those near my home anyway. They have mostly hammerstrength machines, but also a fair selection of freeweights, including 2 smith machines and 3-4 stationary bench presses. And of course a million cardio machines. But they also have an aerobics room and offer several classes throughout the day. And they have a daycare (my wife loves this part) where she can leave the kid for 2 hours while she hits the gym.

Another gym is an "express" gym. $30 to join, and $10/month afterward. No contract. It is about half filled with cardio machines, and the other half are nautilus machines. They have a single smith machine in the back. Not much in the way of free weights except for the dumbbell rack.

Of course I like the first gym, because it offers so much - and it seems to be fairly vacant (yuppies!) most of the time. But the price!!! The second gym isn't the greatest, but the price is great. I need to decide . . .

                    Re: Gym Prices

my current at golds is $39/month, but there is a hole in the wall gym (which is way better) and if you get automatic withdraw from your bank account, its $16.50/month, qutie a bit of difference. look for a small, locally owned gym bro. stay away from corporate gyms, too much bullshit, and try to pay month to month. don't get locked into some crazy ass 5 year deal.

                          Re: Gym Prices

Paid $400 for 24 months and got 3 extra months free, so it's less than 15 a month. I love my gym, it's very modern and has a ton of equipment and good people. If you don't pay up front it's about 30 a month, but you save a ton by buying it all up front so it was totally worth it for me.

Before that i was a member of a mega ultra spa/gym/upity place. The lobby made any 5 star hotel look shabby. 80 bucks a month. I got 6 months free there in a sales contest at my old job then got spoiled and stuck around for an extra year before realizing i used just the weight room and none of the other aminities. Would have been worth it if i was swiming, playing raquetball, basketball and doing any of the unique programs the offer, but i wasn't. Just a gym rat at heart i guess.

alot of places with get you with a 50-100 dollar fee the first time you sign up with a contract, they call it a building fee or maintenance fee and usually only charge you the first time you sign up for a contract.
