I've never been to Ampersand. If you're looking for a club, try the Metro (just outside French Quarter). Also, The Dock (on the Lake) is a nice club with live music sometimes on the weekends. If you're looking for live music, try The Bengal (Metairie), Southport Hall (New Orleans/Jefferson line on River Road), or Legends (Metairie). You can't go wrong with the French Quarter. You'll find clubs and live music (and good strip clubs, too ).
On Fridays, The Times-Picayune newspaper has a section called "Lagniappe" (pronounced lan-yap). This tells you who's playing where and whats going on. Some awesome local bands that draw huge crowds include: The Molly Ringwalds, Chee-Wees, Bag of Donuts, and Topcats.
After partying, for a late night killer burger (or other goodies), try The Swamp Room in Metairie. Their burgers (1/2 pound) are the shiznit! Also, The Bottom Line has good late night food (also in Metairie).
A great jazz musician - Kermit Ruffins - plays at a bar calle Le Bon Temps in Uptown. I think Thursday nights. He plays elsewhere, but that's the one place I know about. Also, you should have Sunday Brunch at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles. This is my favorite thing when I am back in town. I never went clubbing much when I lived there, but I hear there are some good ones in the Marenie neighborhood. You can never go wrong with a night in the Quarter either . . . Have fun bro.
check out 360 at the top of the world trade center. It spins around and you get an amazing view of the city. Great ambiance, great atmosphere, great scene. You can see all the way down canal street it is really an increadible view all around. Find a couch, grab a drink and a girl, sit down and let the room spin you around.
Whiskey Blue at the H hotel is also a kick ass bar. Great place to go if you don't mind spending a few bucks, i was there last year for new years and it was incredible.
If you get a chance, emmeral (sp?) has a restaurant there... best meal i've ever had.
I run suicide drills over and over with the weight of the world on my shouders... I'm far from being god, but i work god damn hard.

Damn good recommendations. I lived in NOLA for nearly 4 years. Loved the place.
I was just there... its pretty cool city. walking down burbon street is a fun time in itself... there is a street that parallels burbon which also has a lot on it.
I'm Just an old chunk of Coal, But I'm gonna be a DIAMOND some day.
