I have seen some good projection hdtvs, but they are not cheap. $1500 is not much when you get very big. and widescreen IMO is preference. some like bigscreen some like widescreen. i have a 60" and love it

I have a 60" projection hdtv and love it! your tv should have the option to go from 4:3 format to wide screen, panoramic 4:3 Expand and auto focus, check the manuals. I got mine during a superbowl blowout special at Circuit City for 1398.00 out the door...
You have to have HD access in your area to use it. I personally don't think that projection is as clear a picture as the regular tube tv's, but i know for sure Hitachi, Sony, Toshibia, are some of the clearest in the projection. All media is going widescreen format, so if you want to get the full screen effect go widescreen.

Mines Sony and i have no complaints about the clarity of the picture.
16:9 is the way to go. I have a Consumer Reports guide to HDTV I can scan and send if it would help.... I don't remember the top projection TV's. There are two or three different systems used to project and all have thier pros and cons.
Plasma i heard like only lasts 4-5yrs and if you happen to drop it, well you might as well get a new tv, lol! I talked to a few tv guys on this, they said to wait 2-4 yr longer if you want to go plasma, because they are very hard to fix and don't last as long as the other tvs for the amount of $ you have to spend on them. Projection Nate, dont get me wrong it has a good pic, but if you look say at a flat tube in a similar model there is a bit of higher, crisp clarity.
I'm not arguing that at all mick-G, there was just no way i was passing on the tv i got for the price it was...the tv i wanted was a 52" and was $5999.00...i'm happy with what i have and i saved a buttload of cash.
I know i go for the deals too. If you paid 1398 for a 5999. 60' Sony, you got a hell of a deal! We have Circuit City where i live too, and thats were i get my stuff if i need anything electronic.
I have a 47 projection , wide... but i dont have the HD hooked up as of now. My cable is included in my condo fee, and in order to get HD i would have to upgrade to digital for close to 30$ a month plus upgrade to the HD for 5$ more... and we only have 5 HD channels in my area.
I am waiting until digital becomes standard then the HD upgrade for 5$ will be nothing.
