    Re: NICOTINE...who has quit?

The cravings come in stages. The first couple weeks are almost constant. Then less so for another month or so. It seemed to me that the later ones were just as strong, but they catch you by surprise. That's what makes them tough, IMO. You begin to let your guard down after a while. I had cravings out of the blue 5-6 months after quitting that were awful. But you just try to stay strong, reminding yourself of why you decided to free yourself from that addiction. Good luck bro. Its tough, but it can be done.

      Re: NICOTINE...who has quit?

I think if i can remember the first 2-3 months are the worst, but what happened to me is like after month 4, my mind started to play tricks on me, and id try to convince myself that if i smoked just a few id be ok, but i would fight hard to convince myself, but one night i started drinking and that was my downfall. I bought a pack and prob smoked the whole damn pack in one night, but the next day i felt like shit, and never went back. The biggest prob for me is that my wife smoked too so i had to convice her to quit also, cause it was too hard for me to quit with her smoking around me.

yep, that explains me - stages

Today was bad, it wouldn't be as bad if I wasn't trying to diet. I can deal with the cravins as long as I can eat, but trying not to eat snack food was killing me today, I bet I drink 8 big cups of coffee

it is all good though, in 14 years I have never gone 4+ months and it feels good, no turning back

chewed and dipped for a couple of years. one day just stopped and chewed gum. it wasnt that bad but when i see someone take a dip my mouth waters.

it was just so damn nasty. especially when you are making out with your girl and you stop and all around her mouth is covered in worm dirt.

                Re: NICOTINE...who has quit?

i'm still in the process of trying to quit. i'm not one of these veteran redneck smokers who say bullshit like "man, i've been smoking since i was 13." well if thats the case dude, i really feel sorry for you. not like this justifies anything, but at least when i started, i was old enough to smoke. i've only been smoking for about 4 years.

i sometimes feel like edvedr in that its "because i was bored" or "the pary atmosphere", then i have to sit and realize "who the hell am i trying to fool, i'm hooked and there's no 2 ways around it."

now i will say this. YES YES YES, smoking is bad for you. so is a lot of other things people do. i.e. rec drugs,drinking,aas...... now smoking does NOT inhibit any training abilities in the gym. the only thing it does effect (obviously) is cardio. i'm not really a big fan of cardio (in large amounts anyway) i can do the eliptical at a medium pace for 20-30 minutes no problem. so its really not an issue

i'm trying to quit (and to no avail i might add) its just that where i work, i get soooooo fucking bored, i need something to do with my hands. maybe i'll start whackin it at work, that'll keep me busy, lol.

                  Re: NICOTINE...who has quit?

Yep you and ED are both right, and i was bored too. I think my prob was i always had to be doing something and smoking too up that extra time. You have to really want to quit though to do it. Maybe try switching to a different brand that you don't like as much. Some ppl also over smoke till they just get sick of it, which makes it easier to quit. Buy lots of sugarless gum and certs, lol!

                      Re: NICOTINE...who has quit?

I smoked for 5 years and then quite once I started studying biology. However, the more I stuydied the worse it was. I found out in pathology class that a large amount of people who smoke never end up with cancer and that genetics has a huge part of that. Well I took a look at my familly history and found that my grandpa had cancer and my uncle had cancer so I stoped. I still struggle with it 4 years later. Once in a while I mess up but Ive learned something interesting. If you have freinds that dont smoke and you make them pressure you (i.e. tell you things like "thats nasty" or "you know the metabolites of nicotine interfere with testosterone.') then it will be alot easier. That's my 5 cents.
