  • Need Help-Medicine-Stray Cat

I have been feeding this stray cat for about two weeks now. I think it is very young, but it is hard to tell because it is so malnourished. I am guessing that is over 6 months less than a year.

I thought by feeding it the cat would begin to gain strength and look/act healthier. That has not happened. It just lies around all day. I can’t catch it, so the vet is out of the question. No vet will prescribe antibiotics without seeing it.

Is there something I can buy from an online place (like calvetsupply.com) that may help it? I am sure it needs worm medicine, but I don’t know what to buy.

    Any help is appreciated.

YOU HAVE TO CATCH THAT CAT. SET UP A TRAP

I could probably catch it that way, however the vet will not treat an un ruly cat. You have to be able to hold and calm the animal

well if you can catch it and get it to trust you then u should be ok....but check with other vets....mine would never turn their backs on an animal....i had a cat a few years ago that snapped one day and tried attacking me....weird shit...had to put it to sleep cause it wanted me dead....it pranced around in a locked room and if i even walked by the room she would slam up against the door and you would see her paws reaching out from under the door frantically tryin to get at me.....she actually had me trapped in the bathroom for 30minutes when she first attacked me....it was crazy.....and i loved the cat....but anyways my vet saw her when she was in that state....they just knew how to handle the cat

Yes, get a cage trap. Some cities provide them free of charge for wild animals. If you can get, put some food the cat likes in it. Also, there are many vets that will look at ferral cats. Maybe just the one you called doesn't. Most are trained in this area and how how to control one. In the mean time, try to gain its confidence by going up to it, but not by standing up. Get on your hands and knees and talk to it softly while getting alittle closer each time. I would call a rescue and ask them if they can refer you to a vet that will handle this. Also it may not be wise to try and catch it early on as cat bites are the most infectious bites you can get. If you are in a hurry get a trap and get it to a vet. Are you sure it is a young cat? FIV doesn't usually show up until at least 2yrs of age, which i hope it isn't, but the cat could have worms or parasites which can cause probs with retaining weight, but is generaly easy to treat. Is that a cat you may keep? My wife and i have two rescue cats and they make wonderful pets.

I will never buy a bred animal. Too many animals in rescue or shelters that need homes. Better to save one than to encourage more breeding.

Additionally, any good vet will treat any cat regardless of how wild and unruly if you take it there in a small trap size cage. They will give it an anestesia shot through the cage and then work on it. I used to date a vet.

If you call your vet they can also give you tranquilizers to put in its food....so when you catch it give the food with the meds then take it to the vets.

It's probably got worms. Very common for cats, and no matter how much they eat, they will still look sickly.

Phone up your vet, and tell him/her about your situation and how it looks malnurished even tho you've been feeding it. The vet will probably give you some deworming pills.

I've rescued several cats the worst was a female who i had been feeding for over a year and she was quite feral, but after that time i was finally able to get her in my hands, one evening she was meowing at my front door till late and i went to see what the noise was she had been pregnant for sometime anyhow when i came out she ran ahead of me then turned back as if she wanted me to follower her so i did, she led me across our alley and jumped a fence first peering down before dropping over the side.

Next day she didnt show for breakfast so i went over and asked if i could look for her in there yard, where i found her in a huge clay pot with 3 kittens, i took the whole pot and brought it home and dumped her and the kittens out in my closet where she raised them until i found homes for them, I ended up keeping her and trust me she was still feral.

I warned my vet that this feline was absoutely not going to be easy to deal with but i needed her spayed and they were able to get it done along with FIV blood test first and shots, they named her CRAZY CAT LOL .

Outdoor cats often have low weight due to exposure and disease i had to put down a cat last year who i had fed and taken care of for 2 years when he came to me he was damn near dead he had been hit by a car or something no broken bones just beat to hell and after a long long time he got his health back but had his eye poked one day and i took him to the vet to get checked plus he never did really get all the weight back he should have so i had him tested for FIV and he came back positive, i asked if this would hamper his recovery and they said definetly he did not have much longer to live, so i had him euthanized which was not easy he was a really really good boy.

My latest is a 2 month old kitten who showed up at my doorstep, I found the owners and they told me she was going to the SPCA that week so i kept her, now i have an old bitxh cat thats been with me for damn near 10 years now and she's a mean old thing but i've taken in the momkat and the kitten now and she hates it but the other 2 play and play and the momkat has taken in the kitten like it was her own, she goes in soon for shot and spay.

Find a vet that will take that poor cat in and have a look theres no reason a vet should turn away an animal of any kind, thats there freaken job and there trained to deal with even the worst ferals, they have gloves that protect themselves and there are tactics to getting them out of cages and such dont guess about what might be wrong with the cat it could be alot of things.

Heres all three i have 2 others outside i feed also LOL
