  • Chronic Heartburn!

have suffered from chronic heartburn for years now. I was on previcid for over a year, then it stopped working as well. Went on nexium, worked better, but if I forget to take it ed in teh morning, by noon I have severe heartburn and if I eat anything, my stomach hurts bad.

Anybody have any ideas? My doctors are reluctant to do any testing, like the camera in teh tube thing, but I am going to demand it next time,,I have great insurance. Has anybidy else gone through this? I thought those proton pump inhibitors fixed stomach problems. Any input at all would help.

        I have the same problem.

My doctor mentioned certain things that make it worse. Caffeinne being one of them. I love my coffee.

The suprise was mints. Yes, mints, like lifesavers, certs, even those paper strip things out now. Well, I stopped using them and lo and behold my heartburn is no where near as bad as it used to be.

For me, the Prevacid did work wonders though.

        Good luck.

I think weve talked on AF about this before Dragon. I was on Prilosec for about a year. I initially got it after going in and getting a nuclear test. Drinkin the radioactive barum and then turning my upside down and exray in me. I have a "leaky valve" which causes alot of heartburn. Most likely, its from when I was a kid. I was stressed out alot from some things and threw up alot.

Anyways, the prilosec helped alot and it seemed to go away. I kinda wiened off taking it and then out of no where Im in the ER with a bleeding esophogal ulcer.

Im on nexium now. Its does the job for me.

I would definately go get one of those nuclear tests. They also have newer upper GI test that are non invasive. You swallow this little pill that has a camera in it. No tube down your throat of up your butt...

There was a surgery optional possible to replair "the flap" but I declined it, as I wanted to wait it out and see if I could first control it with Diet and proton pump inhibitors.

It sucks though, and if youre having troubles dont sit around about it, or you may end up in the ER as I did. Get some second opinons.

my mom has had it her whole life... she has tried almost any drug out there that's supposed ot help with it... nothing really worked.. and even if it did it worked for a brief period of time...
currently she's taking 'Losec' and she says that it's helping her a lot... ask ur doctor about that, and see if it helps...
after having heartburn for a long time u start developing ulcers in ur stomack lining and ur esophagus... (sometimes u can get it in ur intestines too)... and those ulcers are very hard to treat... they can never (hardly) heal completely (cuz they are always surounded by the stomack acid)
if u HAVE had it for "years", i am sure that u might have some... and the only way to detect those is vith the procedures that u mentioned above (those tubes with cameras)
so next time u see ur dock ask him to do those tests..... if he doesn't want to, find one that will...

You might want to try a product called Heartburn Free from a company called Enzymatic Therapy!! I sell it in my Store!! You take one softgel every other day over the course of 20 days and it is suppose to help cure the problem naturally and is not a pharmaceutical drug. You can go the their website at www.enzy.com and do a product search for Heartburn Free and it will give you more details on the product!!

              Good luck with that, man!!
