  • Is my ankle fractured?

okay, got a question for you all...

nearly a month ago I tripped on the stairs at my house and I heard a snapping noise on my ankle. My ankle got extremly fat to the point that it looked broken, but I could walk on it the following day but it was painful. It's been nearly a month since the accident and my ankle is still swollen (not alot but its noticible if you look at it). I can run, not sprint and I cant jump at all. How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal? Could i have a slight fracture?

definitely go to the doc....soft tissue damage is almost worse than a break sometimes. you never know without an x-ray. you could be doing damage as we speak... get it checked!!

sprained ankle? depends of the degree of the tear... there 1st degree (total tear), 2nd degree (partial teal) and 3rd degree (overstretched ligaments)
i had a parial/total tear (1st and 2nd deg.) 5-6 years ago (can't move 2 of my toes ever since) it took me about 5 months to get back to doing things normal, but the pain stayed for almost a year (only when i would touch the ankle)
even a year after, whenever i would poke around the area with my fingers it hurt a lot.....
the key is as soon as u get better to do physio and keep working on it for a long time... u have to get the muscles stonger so that they tighten the ligaments and u don't sprain it again... they all say once u sprain it, it's gonna happen over and over again...
i haven't had a sprain/strain in the last 5 years... getting the ankle strong is the key point

unless it's broken, the doc won't be able to do much with it... he will tell u to do R.I.C.E. and start physio after few weeks...
try not to walk/jump as much right now... give it some rest

Bro, you going to have to make an appointment with dr to get an x-ray to see if you have a fracture. If the regular x-ray can't pick it up you will have to get a nuecular bone scan at your nearest hospital, which your private dr. can setup for you. I would not leave it as is!
