Think about how many times you got stuck and quit gaining, and then read up on some new training or diet ideas and then started making more progress again.

Genetic Potential is for supplement ads.

Over used terminology for sure, 99% of the people out there who say they reached their genetic potential before doing gear, IMO are full of it. As Billy pointed out, how in the heck do you even reach your genetic potential, I think you could pretty much call it impossible.

My thoughts exactly, I think Billy said it best.

Well, a baseball pitcher can reach his 'genetic potential'.. so I don't know if that term is just for suppliment ads

If you had an active childhood, you will be better accustomed to muscular development than if you had a sedentary one.

Once you pass 40, certain hormonal and cellular effects that can interfere with muscle growth.
On a cellular level, it appears there is a decrease in the number/amount of satellite cells which carry mostly DNA and appear to be the real keys for rapid muscle growth.
The decrease in SC's could be that there may be a limit to the number of satellite cells the muscle cells can produce in a lifetime. The decrease in SC's production snowballs into less DNA {which generates all the proteins required for the muscle to function}.
Basically, your muscle cells cater to all of its essential organelles and structures & make sure they are taken care of.. before it begins increasing net protein content.
If there is DNA left over then the fiber will get larger.

Weight trainers*bodybuilders over 40 just hafta be more intense with nutrition, sleep, and stress levels on order to optimize growth.

                            I wouldn't say you're 'screwed' hotshot.
You're just going to hafta work harder to get the same results as someone younger.
Even IF you had started training sooner, you'd still be facing this same dilemma.

You're just really going to hafta be very focused and you'll be lookin' good in June.
                            *shrugs*
I guess it all depends on how good you want to look for the reunion...

Cirrus, Im sorry I didnt even catch your question before or I would have answered it...

The answer..is yes..and no. Mainly, cause you have nothing to measure against what it would have been if you started when you were 20.

After 35-40, levels in GH will drop off to very low. This will factor in. I dont think you could hit the same genetic potential with lower levels of GH, than if you had much higher ones. The same will apply with testosterone.

IMO, the amount you will be able to put on isnt limited, but if you were to compare the amount with what it would have been when you were 20, I believe it will be very much lower.

Dont be discouraged though. You still can and will gain. My dad is pushing 50. Hes lifted since he was 16. Problem though he has about 1% of an idea of what he is doing. I dont know how the hell he didnt give up after 34 years of no more than 10lbs in gains. After I came home after my first year of college away from home, I had put on a noticable amount of mass (AS free). Maybe like 15-20lbs in a years course. This was really my first year lifting though, so it comes easier at first.. Anyways, I sat him down gave him the low down about protien, carbs, mono-fats, GI index, PW fuel, insulin spikes, proper training...the whole 9 yards.

Since then he put on about 20lbs over about 4 years. AT 44-48 range. I think thats good personally. Now he has stopped gaining again, mostly cause he got cocky and thinks he knows it all now...but he just got put on HRT so we will see.

Being your age, Im guessing you dont want any more kids? I would look into meeting a good endocrinology. You could be put on a test patch for now and in between cycles if your levels make you a canadite. I dont know your history, so for all I know you could be like a screamin teenager. I would also look into GH therapy. It is quite expensive, but there are some reputable companies overseas that make it affordable.

Hope that will help some. You can do it, but it will take more persistance and patience.
