Why must I yearn to hold you again
In the soft warm darkness - I remember when
Your glistening eyes, windows to see
Would glance about, finally at me
My heart would skip, my throat too tight
Your smile as always, bringing me light
Though beautiful you are, I love what’s inside
Intelligence, wit, yes - even your pride
So the Why is at last answered, with these and more
None will come after you, none came before
Who affected me this way, it’s almost a disease
When my thoughts constantly strive, thoughts to please
Am I stricken with love, that I pace in my mind?
Searching and seeking, hoping to find
Every scrap of your memory, every tapestry’s thread
Histories of our talks, every word that had fled
From your lips, who’s warmth I once shared
A moment of passion, my love it had dared
To claim you my own, but even it forgot
That while it may love, the other may not.
Love Unrequited, an amorous feign
