Anybody ever have swollen/bleeding gums??

About three days ago I went to brush my teeth and noticed they were a bit sore. The next morning I didnt feel very good but Was still alright thought the day (except for my gums hurting. Yesterday, I woke up and was in hell. Nasty fever, headache, couldnt eat, joints hurt, eyes hurt, everything was fucked up. I went to the doc and He said might have the flu and dont worry about my gumg because that happens sometimes with the flu (well I had the gum issue BEFORE the sickness soooo). Today my gums hurt so bad I cant eat anything that is not liquid, I can peel dead pieces of tissue off of my teeth, my throat feels like someone blowtorched it, and Still have a headache/ fever (which I have been able to keep down by taking ibprofen every two hours).

So. Has anyone ever had anything like this? because i sure as hell havent. ANY imput at all would be appreciated.


I am going to see a dentist tomorw BTW.

if you aren't flossing, i agree - sounds like gingivitis. you may have the flu on top of it.

try this - gargle 3 x daily with warm, salt water. put a tablespoon of salt in a cup (4oz) of warm water. make sure your gums get bathed.

if it's not gingivitis, then this may help reduce the irritation and swelling and any infection that's taken advantage of your reduced immunity.

once you kick the flu, get your ass to a good dentist STAT. gum disease is not something to fool around with. you can, at the least, lose teeth. you can also get blood poisoning, which is extremely dangerous in this region as it falls above the blood-brain barrier.

if it gets better and you haven't been flossing, consider this a wake-up call and start taking better care of your teeth and gums. i bought one of those electronic rotating brushing dealies and i love it. my gums have never felt better.

I went to the dentist yesterday. He said that it was either a herpes ourbreak or some kind of infection (i dont remeber the exact name). I have had herpes for as long as can remember and usually have an outbreak every 1-2 years (damn herpies carrying kissing adults when i was a baby).

Anyways he thought it wasnt herpes, because usually reoccurances arent this bad, only initial outbreaks. So he gave me a anti-bacterial mouthwash and some ammox. and sent me on my way.

Well, I now believe that it is the herpes. I am getting a sore outside of my mouth that is exactly like the ones i used to get when I had my outbreaks, so I dont know what I am going to do. It has been five days now and it hurts so badly I cant even stand it. I cant eat anything-it hurts too badly. Water became utterly painful yesterday, and solid food is absolutely out of the question.

For three days I have been living off of two shakes a day- chuggign them quickly and then getting teary-eyed and having my eyes roll back in my head because the pain is unbearable.

I have sores on my tougue, lips, gums, throat (not sure if its herpes sores or just a sore throat), and now one on the outside of my face. I really dont know what I am going to do. This is undoubtably the most pain I have ever been in for a longer (over a few minutes or an hour or two) period of time.


Anyone have any suggestions at all for anything??? Again, any help would be appreciated.

hopefully someone else has more direct experience and advice. i've had cold sores - but nothing like you're describing - the only thing i can say is, get thee to thy physician hun, an outbreak this serious could require some prescription medication to control.

remember your dentist may be a doctor, but he's a specialist, he can't cover all the ground you need with this condition.

i read that outbreaks of oral herpes can be accompanied by flu-like symptoms. this sounds like a DOOZY of an outbreak and i wonder if this isn't the source of your "flu." anyway i'm concerned for you. call your doctor!

Gingivostomatitis

HSV can cause multiple painful ulcers on the gums and mucous membranes of the mouth, a condition called gingivostomatitis. This condition usually affects children between the ages of one and five. It nearly always subsides within two weeks.

Oral Agents

Acyclovir is often taken orally for a severe primary attack of HSV-1 and may even be beneficial for children. When taken for prevention, it reduces frequency and severity of recurring infections. Valacyclovir (Valtrex), taken twice a day for one or two days at the first sign of a cold sore, is proving to be safe, effective, and easy to administer. Studies in 2003 study are mixed on the extent of its benefits, however, and whether they outweigh its high cost. Oral famciclovir has also been somewhat helpful.

Topical Treatments

Topical agents are now available that might help shorten the duration of pain and symptoms, although none is truly effective in eliminating outbreaks.

Over-the-counter topical anesthetics may provide modest relief. They include Anbesol gel, Blistex lip ointment, Campho-phenique, Herpecin-L, Viractin, and Zilactin. In one study, Viractin reduced the duration of the attack compared to placebo (a dummy pill) by two days. It also relieved itching but had little effect on other symptoms. In general, however, few studies have been conducted on any of these products.

Docosanol cream (Abreva) is an over-the-counter agent for oral-facial herpes. It helps resist infection by inhibiting the ability of the virus to become fully active after it has attached itself to the host cell. It is applied five times a day, beginning at the first sign of tingling or pain. Studies have been mixed on it benefits.

Herbal remedies include: topical cream made from Melissa, an herb from the mint family; a dropper-full of an extract of echinacea applied to the sores every few hours; and, tea tree and eucalyptus oils. Such oils exhibit anti-viral activity against HSV. Warning: such oils are for topical use only since they can be ***very toxic if ingested***. They should not be used in children.

Medications also include:

Penciclovir (Denavir) heals HSV-1 sores on average about half a day faster than without treatment, stops viral shedding, and reduces the duration of the pain. Ideally, the patient should apply the cream within the first hour of symptoms, although benefits have also been noted with later application. It is continued for four consecutive days and should be reapplied every two hours while awake.

Acyclovir cream (Zovirax) has been approved. It may speed healing of oral herpes lesions and lessen the duration of pain, particularly if it is applied early on (at the first sign of pain or tingling).

Lidex is a gel that contains a fluocinonide, as corticosteroid. Corticosteroids, commonly called steroids, are anti-inflammatory agents and not ordinarily used for herpes. Some evidence suggests it may be effective in combination with oral famciclovir.

keep it nice and clean.. brush ur teeth with a SOFT toothbrush (without pushing too hard) 3-4 or so times a day... flos and use mouth wash occasionally...
also get LOTS of vitamin C .. start taking 3-4g per day...

also seeing a dentist wouldn't bee too bad... watch out for gums... once u fuk em up it's REALLY hard/impossible to make them better... or reverse the action...

Wow this is scarry, a flu of this type seems to be one that could be engineered by a government lab to be used in Bio-Warfare.
Make sure your doctor is 100% loyal to your interests and not one of those doctors who is loyal to governmental interests. He or she could be reporting to the c.d.c. your symptoms and you could be one of the guinnee pigs for study.
This has happened in our country since the great flu outbreak durring World War 1.

Hey, well I've been doing everything recomended and it does seem to have gotton slightly better.

I got some Acyclovir which seems to be doing alright. My throat feels much bettter, but my tongue is alightly worse. I seem to be generally getting better now. It has been 7 days; I have lost 12 pounds.

The worst part of all is that I think I gave it to my girlfriend . I will feel so terrible if I did. We last did our thing on sunday when I barly had a slight tickle in my gums and i didnt think anything of it. I feel so bad for her now.
