My brother and I are seriously considering the idea. I looked into Gold's though....that's not gonna happen. You have to have a net worth of $800,000 and at least $300,000 in cash assets. I am considering a local private owned place maybe....one that someone wants to sell. If not a gym I have some other ideas in the fitness/nutrition industry.

is your gym just a local gym or a franchise

Location is key. If the compotition isn't bad then a private owned gym would be fine. However, if there are a bunch of Golds, 24 hr fitness, or Worlds, etc in the area then it might not be a good idea. As for a franchise, your odds are better of succeding. Gold's is not gonna just let you open a gym up without them looking into your plans also. They must approve of it. I plan to move where I intend to open a business....not open one where I live. I am studying the economy in different areas and then I will make my decision.

Well, I plan to have about $40,000 saved in the next 2-3 yrs. Then I will combine my assets with my brothers as collateral and use my veteran benefits for a loan most likely. This is a plan I intend to execute in the next 3 yrs. My brother is back in school finishing up his doctorate in Economics, he has 2 yrs left and then we will decide. He will have to teach at a college so we need to decide on some locations with universities for him to apply.

That is not a true statement Fuzo. It all depends on the business, owner, and location. I'm not saying you will get rich off a gym but you can make a comfortable living if you run it right and are in a good location. I will be satisfied doing what I love and making a comfortable living doing it.

Like I said, it's a matter of location. You can't try to compete with the big named gyms unless you have the money to build a damn nice one. I would never build or buy a gym in Chicago, nor would I in NYC or any other large city where the land or rent is outrageous. I would stay on the outskirts of a city targeting people in the suberbs.

I am in planning since 98, I had talks with Gold's, Pöwerhouse and World's. OK, you pay for a fucking name, thats it. And you have to get all your shits from them, quite annoying, or you open a pro shop in a seperated adjacent local.

Anyway, the business is paying well. BUT, there is ALWAY but.
                              - location is important
                              - need women, they bring money, dont train long, and use the facilities less than "men".
                              - Cardio cost an arm, 8000-10000 per treadmills.
                              - rent
                              - what kind of gym you want. You want a hardcore gym, well you will have problems to be very weatlhy.
                              - what are your services.
                              - What equipment will you use, rent or buy.
                              etc etc etc.......

If you use a big name....

First you need to send a plan, they have minimum in square feet of 10-12 000 feet. (SMALL) Min, investment. See at your potential and plan. Look at your financial asset. Then, they will sell you a territory. In your start up fees it includes, training, banner etc etc etc..
but then you have to pay between 12 000-25 000$ a years in royalties.
Something you can have in your pocketm if you are on your own to put on your gym back, new shit and all.

You have to buy their supplements and equipments from their "certified" lists.

Me im a from a city (600k) that has, 12 gyms in town) 11 of them SUCK ASS, badly and they do fucking money. There one on my street, its a fucking rape, there nothing, its shit and people pays 39$ a month for NOTHING!!!!

Where I go to, is situated in an industrial area of town. but, its three floors, brand new equipment every 3 months has they produces their own (ATLANTIS), so that a plus. Before that gym was the place of the hardcore, now its another story.

But to get started you need easilly 500k, and about 300 will be placed on equipments, and easilly the half on fucking cardio.
three doodoo is back! Hide your women!
