i have had 2 close friends go there.......one guy lived in Baghdad for 2 months......during the heat of the war.
i for one(sometimes) am embarrassed to be an American.....because of our past, and the things we still do today........
yes our way of life as civilans is proly one of the top cultures to live in. but our Govt. as very screwed up.......
Name one military conflict the USA has been in that has not in any way been for our economic gain.
the only one i know is Rowanda......and once we realized we werent going ot have economic gain we puled out...
our pres says "were doing this to help people" BULLSH*T!!
if we really wanted to help pepople we would have 50 years ago stepped in on the whole Israel invasion……
Vandoo is right DO NOT TRUST AMERICAN MEDIA! Search elsewhere…..do your reading up …..check out all the shit we have done to Latin America….it’s a shame
And you will also find out The USA has helped install many Dictators…and its was always and is always going to be about $$$$$$$…study your history.

The day the US Govt. enters into a military conflict that is in no way economically beneficial and only to help people…I think I will win the MR. O

I have a few Airborne friends. The first thing they told me was “the gov’t will put you in some F-up situations.” There is no doubt that the US has participated in military activities for less than noble causes, and that we as a nation have committed atrocious acts against mankind. (Mexicans, Native Indians, African American….) But I believe we as a nation have come a long way from those times.

I am going to take Tiny up on his offer and see what info I can get on a few past wars. It may take me until late January when I return from overseas and get back to school…but I will revive this thread with my findings.

Something that seems to boggle me is this notion of a one-sided, single source media in the United States, and the apparent arrogance that portrays Americans as beings not intelligent enough to distinguish the bias present.

There are many facets to American media; many are not American at all. CNN is a single source, which has been one of the most critical TV stations against the current administration. But there are radio, magazines, newspapers, TV, and let us not forget the Internet.

Within each of these media vehicles there are those who strongly support, and those who strongly disapprove, of the President and his policies. (There is also a presidential campaign underway where candidates are attacking the President each day.) And there are those who remain neutral and attempt to stick to the facts as much as possible.

I personally receive the majority of my news updates from NPR. (npr.org) I feel they are an extremely credible source and if a bias exist it would lean towards the left, not the right, as Bush is. (right and left are US political terms)

I have rather enjoyed this thread. And believe it or not I still like Vandoo
