Chris's father responded to my post in his guest book. This is what it says.
"Mike/Cipher,
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I'm Chris' dad. Although his death has brought eternal sorrow, your words point to the wisdom of God and that I do not contest.

I emailed him back and again expressed extreme sorrow for him and he replied with this.
"Thanks Mike. Work to support fitnessgeared. Soon I will lend it my support to keep it open and free as Chris had wanted.
God bless."
So that is definitive info that fitnessgeared will go on for those who were worried and it sounds to me like it will be funded by his father.
