  • Anyone good with computers?????????

I had windows xp professional on my laptop and didn't like it so one of my boys tried to uninstall it and install windows xp home from my desktop.....but for some reason now my laptop can't read any of my hardware things...like my audio doesn't work at all....it took me two hours to get my modem to come back up..... and that was allowing time whether or not to throw this damn laptop across the room....:2gunsfiri :2gunsfiri LAPTOP!!!!!!

When you uninstalled XP Pro did you format the dive? This can sometimes cause these types of issues.

    Start > Run> type in: Format C

this will clear the harddrive of everything so make sure that any data on there is backed up. once this is complete try re-installing XP Home.

Umm, that will not work. You can't format an active system partition in any Win32 OS.

I would suggest sticking with XP Pro. XP Home is a watered down crap version that WILL cause you nothing but problems bro.

XP home is like Windows ME. They are NOT the same as the real thing.

If you put an original install CD for XP Pro in the CD drive and boot from it you can choose to delete the existing partition and then create a new one and install it there. Then do windows updates out the wazoo, if you have a friend with a "Slipstreamed version of XP" it has the latest patches already on it it will save a lot of time.

Understand that by repartitioning your drive you will loose ALL information on the drive you currently have, though most likely your issues will be resolved.

XP home doesn't suck. It's just a crippled version of XP Professional. They are about 90% the same.

Sounds like you need to reinstall all of your drivers. Your laptop should have came with a disk that contained the drivers. You can probably also download them from the manufacturers website.

If you have XP professional or the original system-recovery disks, I'd just use them.

The drive could have been formatted. But you would have had to boot from a floppy to do it.
RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.

Hindsight is always 20/20. But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy.

Most laptops should be OK.....The only laptops im aware of that have problems with XP recognizinf hardware is Sony Viao. You will need the driver disc from Sony. I have a top sercret G14 classified version of XP with SP1 installed already. Ill ship it if you cover the cost of shipping or I maybe able to upload it to an FTP site or something.
