Have you ever noticed that some people get way more out of control than others when they drink?

Me for example: I keep my head on pretty straight. Sure I get drunk and stupid.. I'll stumble and fall and eventually puke.. But rarely do I do something totally stupid or cause alot of troubles. Aside from taking a girl home far below my normal sober standards, my judgement isn't all that bad.

But then there are others who it seems as tho they get just totally out of controll. It's like their brain just switches off.. they'll get crazy ideas in their heads and it's impossible to talk them out of it. Now I'll get dumb ideas, but people are usually able to talk me out of it. Or girls who will get drunk, sleep with some dude they don't even know, then cry about it the next day... OK so you live and learn... but then to continue to do this every month or so?

So what's your verdict folks? Is this purely a personality thing.. or is there some sort of genetic link that makes different people controll their booze differently?

I think it is a few things

    a) when sober they forget how they are drunk
    b) they are trying to escape sober thoughts/feelings at any expense
    c) their friends influence them poorly

I have dated guys that will only express their emotions when sober - My fridge is full of chocolate and Booze now - LOL

        Could be Sugar..

Let's talk about my buddy Ross. He's a good guy, but I've made an oath never to go out drinking with that guy again. It's just too much trouble. He get's too stupid and I either end up in a fight or babysitting him.

The rest of our friends are no problem. So I'm pretty sure it's not his friends influenceing him in a bad way. He's also caught hell a few times from us for being an idiot while drunk. He's been left dowtown at the bars more than once for example. He's definately been told about how much of a pain in the ass he is... maybe tho he doesn't really realize it for himslef? And he seems like a pretty happy guy with a pretty good life thus far... I really can't see why he'd use drugs or alcohol as a crutch. Plus it's not like he drinks 5x a week or something.

I personally get drunk and enjoy dancing on bars

            Maybe I should stop drinking....

            or start bartending *hmmmmm*

Ross sounds like my friend janelle - everytime we went out in college I had to babysit her - she made me PROMISE not to let her stay over with a guy when she was drinking. But once she was drunk I would have to physically remove her from places and she would fight me. After that happened twice I told her she was on her own - few months later she was pregnant.

There supposively some gene that people sometimes has that metabolises alcohol differntly.
I may get a buzz but I honestly can drink a 12 pack and most people would never know it. On the other hand I've had guy friends that I will not go out with again...EVER!

The difference seems to be does your personality change or not?

I'm like that too... I don't show how drunk I am..well until I pass out or throw up.

Sugar: Janelle sounds like a girl I know as well. Totally smart, quiet, and a nice person, and also kinda shy... but get her drunk and she'd sleep with anyone. You see her outside of the bar, and she looks like the cute librarian type. See her in the bar..and it's a whole other story.

That's always been my opinion too. If you did it drunk, it's something you would have done sober if you wern't worried about consequences.

But lately, I've met a few people who disagree with this completely. Basically saying, that when they get drunk they are a totally different person...they don't get to the point of thinking about it for it to be a self control type issue.

A very good question: And one that I don't know the answer to. I guess it would depend on if that person was willing to give up drinking. But then that would also mean I'd have to give up as well, as I don't think that would work. Maybe if she would agree to never drink when I wasn't around. Course I'm not much of a drinker...so it wouldn't be a big sacrifice for me.

I know I`m one way here, but "as long as you were`nt along" would include ladies night out.
                          1. You would`nt be able to trust them, and
                          2. you would likely be resented because they could no longer drink.

People can change...but they DON'T like to be changed no matter what they say.
Loosing battle. And please this is not an argument just what I've learned from being around for too long
