I'm jelous!
Just finished building a home entertainment center for my brother.
He came to me, said he had $5000 and wanted a "Kickass stereo, a big-ass TV, a cool-ass DVD player, and maybe a dope-ass gaming console if there is enough money" My first thought "When'd my bro develope the ass fetish?"
After lots of price checking and thought, I decided to do things a little differently. I decided that the best way to do this is to have a computer controll everything.
I bought a P4 box with a Gforce4 video-out card, 130gig HD and 512MB of DDR400 RAM. The PC controlls everything....
I also bought some speakers, a 6.1 channel amplifier, and a 46" high definition TV.
The TV is the monitor for the computer.. the computer plays the DVD's, regular CD's, or MP3's from his collection.
This turned out to be a really cool setup. I bought a wireless KB and mouse that he keeps under his coffee table. Anytime he wants to, he can just reach down and do whatever he likes. He can even get his radio from the net...
Yesterday we were watching football, and during the comercials we'd surf the net (checking out the other game scores) or play videogames.
The picture and sound quality are perfect too.. you'd never know that it's all being run through a computer.
