Will Smith is a "fag" because he doesn't promote crime and violence. I just love how fucked up society has become!

only thing they know is making money, huh? What about PLAYING INSTRUMENTS, like real musicians do? That takes talent and skill, something rap does not incorporate. Anyone can spill profanity into a mic and throw their hands in the air, but it takes a real musician to pick the six string!

I'd have to disagree. I like almost all types of music and think their is talented artist from each type. Even though I hate country music I'm sure their is still talented country artist. I think the way people like ludacris and especialy busta rhymes can put words together is pretty impressive. Not to mention alot of rap is mixed with R&b wich includes singing. Also I don't really listen to music just because someone is talented otherwise I'd be listening to symphony music when I lifted(lol). I like some hardcore trance when I lift but I'm positive it probably doesn't take much talent to make it. I'm just basicaly saying no matter what type of music you pic I'm sure their is talented musicians in each group.

No I'm not kidding. And to clarify, I don't like Will Smith's music as I don't like rap. BUT I have no problem with it as it doesn't promote violence, degredation of women, and the ridiculous idea that lack of morals is an admirable quality. Society's youth(or some of them) have come to hold people like Jay Z, Snoop Dog, Eminem, Ludicris, etc as this nations heros simply becasue they drive a Bently and flaunt the unbleivable fact that they can gang bang women and sing(if you can call it that) about murdering people.
I know of no one who can come up with one inspirational or benficial effect that this specific type of music(and it's promotions) has created. It offers no benefit to society at all.

How does it put you in a good mood? Does it make you feel like a bad ass or something? Education, knowledge, Integrity, and respectability does that for me. Not to say you don't posses these qualities. I would never be so slighted in my thinking or judgmental to stereo-type all gangster rap listeners as trogs. I know this isn't the case. Almost all of my good friends like some gangster rap, and I'm still trying to get them to open they're eyes to the negative aspects.
I just don't see the point, or the attraction, unless a lifestyle of violence, using women(as opposed to repsecting them), and conducting yourself in a manner opposed to education is admirable to the listener.
For the most part, I think kids envy the money and ability to do what they want, when they want it. A selfish outlook on things IMO

To each his own; after all this is a free world. And it's the fault of the American culturs deteriorating moral fabric which not only spawns worthless output, but actually embraces it as a benefit of diversity(this is not confined to rap by a long shot)

I don't have a problem with the listener, but I do have a problem with the individual who would write, and distribute a promotion of a destructive life-style to children.
The strong mind can see past the BS, but there are quite a few that actually believe those songs speak truth

                              Amazing post....! Truly!

I personally like many rap songs, and maybe that is because the beats are excellent and I can barely make out what they are saying. Then again, I am a grown woman who has formed many of my opinions on how TO and NOT TO behave morally and ethically. Therefore, I am not as influenced as the "children" that are listening to it. I believe it is wrong to market such vulgarity to kids, but I think it is the parents that need to ensure their kids aren't listening to this with the help of Child Safety laws.

I commend your stance against rap, and in most cases I disagree with the words, but I think one can enjoy the music/beats and take everything else with a grain of salt. IMO they aren't getting half the "ho's" or half the "dough" they claim anyways.

I comletely agree with you on this. I don't listen to rap so I can't state that I know what it is to enjoy listening to it without following the message. BUT, the same can be applied to other forms of entertaiment. Movies for instance. There are many that I would never think of showing a child, but as a mature person who's developed a sense of moral respnsibility and a clear realization of what characteristics I wish to define me; I can view and enjoy a film that would offer no benefit to the younger viewer, and might possibly become a "tool" for development of destructive thinking or behavior(Clockwork Orange or Dead Ringers comes to mind)

I also agree on the parenting issue as well. It's all about influence when it comes to children; and when you have a couple(or single parent) that neglects to do their job as a parent, whether it's from dissociation from a hectic career or inexcusable neglect, you get children looking elsewhere for an attractive lifestyle to take part in.
It definately starts with the parenting, their is absolutely no denying that, at least in my opinion(which some would consider false perspective as I have not had children yet).

In any case, I don't excuse bad parenting, but I also cannot condone what gangster rap promotes. A mature person who can see the difference and interpret between the "show" and the grit can listen uninfluenced by the derogatory lyrics, but the "information" is still out in the open for the ones who can't, don't, or won't differentiate.

                                I'm rambling now
"The tragedy of life is not found in failure but complacency. Not in you doing too much, but doing too little. Not in you living above your means, but below your capacity. Never failure but low aim, is life's greatest tragedy"- Benjamin Mayes
