You'll find that most places really arent concerned how big you are, but how much you know and how well you're able to help others. At my gym, the biggest trainer is probably 200lbs soakin' wet, but the guys they train, they keep pics. on their respective walls and Im amazed at the transformations. They train a couple NPC guys, etc. Pretty amazing considering all 6 of them probably combined bench 1000lbs

I personally train myself. The scintillating results are obvious. Soon you will see me on the cover of Ironman Magazine!

what city do you live in?

Depending if you are in a major market you can make tons of cash. in NYC the going rate for private training is $50-$100 (travel time eats up that hourly average) or you can work in a health club and make $20-$40/hr

and as was mentioned looking fit helps only a little. it's all about personality and knowledge mostly.

some trainers chit chat with clients too much but unfortunately that is what some clients are looking for. Personally I only chit chat for the first 5 minutes and a little when stretching. Be yourself.

Interesting, I might train people when (if) I move to California. those are some good wages

california, florida, and new york are all good states to be in if you can get into the right city as far as making money and being able to stay busy.

september-april is the best time to make money in this biz as people with money travel less with the exception of december. come summer time it is hard to make money if you did not get a solid client base and schedule during the week.

it can easily take about 2-6 months before you start making money because you need to build your client base whether you do it out of a gym or privates.

so if this will be your only source of income you better have money saved up.

Your hourly wage will depend on the quality of your certification, which will directly relate to the type of gyms that will be interested in hiring. I will be getting my NASD within a month but til' then, my lesser certifications been treating me well at 22.50 an hour at a local nyu facility.

The guys in the past couple of gyms I have worked out in have been idiots. All they are are paid conversationalist. I used to use this guy who would come to my house and work out with me. He changed my life and helped me transform into the kid who would always get made fun of from being too fat, to the kid everyone would comment on how good I looked. Now I am in college and that was several years a go, he charged a lot less when I used to workout with him but now he trains people for $150 per hour session. Which to me is crazy but I guess if there are people willing to spend the money, then he can charge whatever the hell he wants. He started out at a local gym making pretty crappy money, then he started his own thing and gradually started pulling in the big bucks, and now he has his own training facility and as soon as he gets enough business there he plans on stoppin the traveling training. So its a good business as long as you have the patience and time.
