  • Anyone ever get a DUI?

I havn't, and don't think I ever will. But every once in a blue moon I find myself driving on what must be pretty close to the legal limit if not slightly over.

I'd like to hear everyone's story, and advice they could give me if I was to ever find myself in their shoes. What would you have done differently (asside from not comiting the crime of course)?

I got a dui in october of last year. i was at a bar that had 25 cent draught and I drank a shit load of it. I was going to the bar my roommate works at when I got pulled over. My blood alcohol concentration was .223 which is really high. Lost my licence in december for a year but got it back in june because I got a interlock breathalizer device in my car. Now if I go out I cant drink or my car wont start. I have to blow to start my car then blow once again in the first fifteen minutes and then once every 1-45 minutes after that. Its a pain in the ass and Ive definatly learned my lesson. A month ago I was out at a cabin and tried to start my car at 3 in the afternoon and couldnt cause I still had booze in my blood. Dont drink and drive
Everything I say is my opinion and should not be listened to by anyone.

I'm old enough to remember things like that. I don't think that would happen today, things are a whole lot different today. About 15 years ago, I got pulled over, a couple of miles from my house. It was obvious that I was shit faced. I didn't even get a sobriety test, checked my license and sent me home. I know, if that were today, I'd go to jail. Small town america ain't what it used to be.

When I was doing community service, the only guy there who had more hours to pay off than me was changed with DUI and manslaughter.

I can't help but feel sorry for the dude. He was a really cool guy who just did something stupid and will be paying for it the rest of his life. He was DUI and crashed the car, his passanger and best friend died in the accident.

I believe he spent 6months in jail, before getting out on some strict probation and having to do 500hrs of community service. In his case, I think the loss of his best friend would have been punishment enough. He said apologizing to his friends family was the hardest thing he's ever done.

actually....not true if you crash your car drunk. if you crash your car drunk, like into a telephone pole (just your car), get out of the car and run your ass off...why you ask? they cant prove you were driving drunk then. you can just say your car got stolen, etc, etc...you get the point....i am dead serious about this to.

now to my DUI advice ( i have gotten one too and it was dropped to a careless...blew a .12)

if you get pulled over...refuse to take a field sobriety test. all those cop cars have video recorders in em and thats just extra evidence to prove you were drunk...instead, just tell the cop you wanna take the PBT. (preliminary breathe test) these will generally be higher than your actual level but if you blow over the legal limit, they'll throw the cuffs on you and off you go. now at the station you will get the real breathalizer and after that you will be given the choice to have a blood test...ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS take the blood test. not that it will show you arent drunk, BUT, if you take a blood test, this means a trip to the hospital, which many police departments, not all though, dont have the time for...and if they dont give you a blood test, the charges MUST be dropped b/c they violated your right to obtain possible exculpatory evidence. theres my official legal advice for all you alcoholics.

                            *****in!

Tip #2: Running away on foot (so long as nobody has been hurt) is a good idea.

Tip #3: Refuse Field test (touch your nose with eyes closed, etc) and instead opt for a perliminary breath test.

Tip #4: Once at the station, they give you another breath test. If you fail this test, opt for the blood test.

Thanks, this is exactly the advice I was looking for.
