hey guys, need your help on this on, i bought some sattelite stuff a few yrs ago, don't even use it anymore, now i'm getting treating letters from direct tv, treating to sue me..charge me with sattelite theft..HELP...

I doubt its Direct TV, it probably the place you purchased it from since Direct TV doesn't even make the satelites Phillips and another company do, Direct Tv simply supplies the signal. I use to work for a company that sold direct TV service and on occasion if someone signed a contract and was given a free satelitte cause of it we would threaten legal action but thats all it was a threat cause the cost of legal action is going to be a ton more than what they get out of it. ok, here is what happen, i bought what is called a booth leg strap, to read the hu card, that was cloned illegaly, from a company out of canada, the company was busted for selling sattelite equip, for illegal purpose, i assumed that the bust involved getting all of the address and names that they sold eqip to, now allof a sudden i'm getting letter from el sugendo cali,
"end user group" with the direct tv letter head, treating to take legal action, for the purchase i made, they want me to send them all my equip and call this # to discuss the matter, i got my second letter, but did not sign for any..i did purchase the equip with my own cc, and it was sent to my address....
just running scared..never done anything illegal in my life..well let me think about the last statement..HELP..

no, i never had a contract with them or ever had a phone line hooked up, with the booth strap i purchaed, it by passed all the stuff..had over 1000 channels, did not ever pay a penny, just 100.00 to program the card..from some one who did it, with a pc and other scripts..Comment

Ouch well i have a friend that does the same thing. See when you do stuff like that you try not to use a cc cause it is an illegal act in you can be charged with satellite theft similar to people who steal cable signal. How long have you had the equipment for? I think it would be hard to charge you with it if they never caught you using it. But i ain't real sure on it i know some of those places have boards that you can get on and ask questions i would tell you to go onto one and see what they do.Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog...Comment

Yea its bull shit. I have never heard of it but know they are tring to srew with everybody. They have to actually see your tv programing to get any kind of legal action against you.Comment

Alot of people got these letters because DTV went after the underground companies who makes the illegal hardware and got the buyers info from the company and now they have yours... But yeah... they dont do much unless you actually come foward and say you did it, they want you to interigate yourself (tell on yourself). But deff read some of these posts (if you have to change to more then 30days view).
